No Politics Please, Florida Students Tell Cheney
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 06:58 PM by sjdnb
MIAMI (Reuters) - Students at Florida State University asked for assurances that Vice President Dick Cheney won't deliver a "political diatribe" or launch a campaign rally when he speaks at their graduation on Saturday.

More than 200 students at the school in Tallahassee, Florida, signed a letter asking university President T.K. Wetherell to seek assurances from Cheney that Saturday's speech "will not be another political diatribe aimed only at scoring points in the presidential campaign."

7. He should be "uninvited"
from all graduation ceremonies. What kind of lies would he tell the new graduates as far as jobs are concerned? McDonald's? Maybe he would tell them "how to avoid the draft" as he did.

5. Good for the students. They are perfectly free to ask him to come and
speak out policts at the appropriate time and setting. Too bad kids have to remind adults to behave in the appropriate manner. I cannot understand why anyone puts up with the total lies that come out of this mans mouth in every fucking speech he does. He is totally incapable of telling the truth about anything.

they know. Liars can't distinguish between truth and lies when their entire life is a lie.
Liars don't realize they're even telling lies either.

6. So at which college's ceremonies is Bush speaking?
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 08:00 PM by Divernan
NT
On edit: I just googled and found W is speaking at commencements in three "battleground" states.

On May 14, at Concordia University in Wisconsin
(a hotly contested state in the presidential election)

On May 21, at LSU (big race for open Senate seat)

and On June 2, at the Air Force Academy in Colorado
(another open Senate seat now that Senator Ben Campbell has announced he is not seeking reelection).

I also saw a reference that Chaney is speaking at two Florida ceremonies, but the only one identified was Florida State.

Pickles is speaking at Miami Dade

Bush to speak at commencement
Security will limit attendance
"The president said he'd love to come," Emmert said in a phone call to The Reveille.
Emmert said he had been working "very hard with a variety of political and corporate leaders" to secure Bush as a speaker for the May 21 event. Commencement is scheduled to start at 9:45 a.m.
Because of security concerns about the president's visit, attendance to the ceremony will be limited. Emails sent to students.

laura bush and dick cheney to speak at graduation commencement ceremonies, and seniors want to protest.
Im graduating this semester and found out that VP of US Dick Cheney is speaking at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 1, 2004. I'm pretty outraged that he is pulling this political stunt (Laura Bush will be speaking at Miami-Dade College this election year) and many other students at FSU are upset as well.

In contrast, Republicans are confident they can win the state for the Bush-Cheney ticket. Republicans realize that President Bush must win Louisiana to be victorious in the fall. President Bush won the state handily in 2000, but is not taking any chances for 2004. The President has visited the state several times in the past few months and will come back next month to speak at LSU graduation ceremonies.

Bush to Give Commencement Address at Concordia Mequon
President George Bush, aside from throwing out the opening pitch at the St. Louis Cardinals home opener, is also going to give the commencement address at Concordia University, Mequon, Wisconsin, a university of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (and the school where WORLD's cultural editor Gene Edward Veith taught for almost 20 years).

Here's the story.

Bush, Cheney and their wives fan out to battleground states for commencements

By SCOTT LINDLAW, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and their wives have chosen mostly re-election battleground states for commencement speeches this spring while maintaining the tradition of addressing military schools.

Bush chose the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colo., for his annual service-academy commencement, on June 2. The motto of this year's graduating class: ''Parati ad Bellum'' ''ready for war.''

The academies have agreed that only one will invite the president each year. Bush was expected to speak at the academy last year, according to the informal rotation, but decided to speak at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy's commencement.

The Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., will get Cheney for a graduation speech on May 19.

Bush gives his first commencement address May 14 at Concordia University in Mequon, Wis., one of the most hotly contested states in the election. Bush was in Wisconsin on Tuesday.

May 21, he gives a graduation speech at Louisiana State University.

The vice president will speak at Florida State University on May 1.

Supplementing the effort in Florida, where the 2000 election was decided, first lady Laura Bush gives a commencement speech May 1 at Miami-Dade College. Ballots in Miami-Dade County were at the heart of the state's re-count dispute.

The vice president's wife, Lynne Cheney, will give the graduation speech at Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio, on May 1. Ohio is as coveted this year as Florida was in 2000.

Bush, who returned from his Crawford, Texas, ranch this week following a long weekend, returns there for a week starting Monday night.

En route, he appears for the last time at a fund raiser for his re-election campaign, this time in Charlotte, N.C. It's a makeup date for a fund raiser he canceled in February. The White House also scheduled a job-training event while Bush was in Charlotte.

Also Monday, Bush throws out the first pitch when the St. Louis Cardinals open the season at Busch Stadium against the Milwaukee Brewers.

On Tuesday, Bush attends a job-training event in El Dorado, Ark. another tightly contested electoral state.

He returns to Washington on April 12 after meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak at the ranch.

Editorial: Celebrate graduation with Bush

Arizona Daily Wildcat

If President Bush accepts UA President Peter Likins' invitation to speak at this spring's commencement, then it should not overshadow the accomplishments of graduating students and evolve into a political event.

Colorado Springs--Bush will speak at academy

President Bush will speak at the Air Force Academy’s June 2 graduation, the White House confirmed Thursday.

Bush also will speak at commencement at Concordia University in Mequon, Wis. Wisconsin is one of the most hotly contested states in the presidential election, according to the polls. On May 21, he gives the graduation speech at Louisiana State University; there is a race for an open Senate seat in that state, as well.

Laura Bush will speak May 1, also in Florida at Miami Dade College. That same day, Lynne Cheney will speak at Cedarville College in Ohio.

12. Do the students really believe that Cheney
gives a shit what they want? I won't be surprised if Cheney pulls the same stunt again, and the majority of the students--sadly--will sit there and take it.

16. Even though he dropped out of college . . .
He's promised to try to be "academic." So he has written a personal story about himself in the academic style. The abstract has been released, along with the title:

On the Sociological and Psychological Effects of Propoganda in Altering Normal Negative Emotional Responses to Vicious Natural Sneers.
