Investigators Remain Mum on CIA Leak
WASHINGTON - Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson is offering his best guess about who leaked the name of his CIA (news - web sites) operative wife, but so far the federal investigators looking into the incident are mum.

Seven months into the probe to determine which Bush administration official disclosed Valerie Plame's name to syndicated columnist Robert Novak last summer, little is known other than it's continuing.

FBI (news - web sites) and Justice Department (news - web sites) officials refused Friday to discuss any aspect of the investigation, which began in September 2003.

Disclosure of an undercover officer's identity can be a federal crime. A federal grand jury in Washington has heard from witnesses and combed through thousands of pages of documents turned over by the White House, but returned no indictments.

1. Nothing to see here, move along..
No, this will die. It is old news for the media. Michael Jackson's child molestation charges are much more important.

2. Seven months and nothing??
If the press focused as much on this as the Clinton-Lewinsky mess, Bush would be really feeling the heat.

Then there's this gem:

Wilson also said it's possible the leak came from Elliott Abrams, a figure in the Reagan administration Iran-Contra affair and now a member of Bush's National Security Council. And Karl Rove, Bush's chief political adviser, may have circulated information about Wilson and Plame "in administration and neoconservative circles" even if Rove was not himself the leaker, Wilson writes.

Elliot Abrams - should be in jail (Iran-Contra)

ROVE - "may have circulated information..." Yeah, and the ocean may be wet.

7. Nice to see that graphic still going around....
That's one I did early on, and didn't tag with the Blah3 URL like I do now.

AWOLBush picked it up and uses it on their site. I've asked them repeatedly to give me some credit for it, but they've never gotten back to me.

4. Plame Watch
~snip~
In the Washington Post, Susan Schmidt writes primarily about the book's revelation about "Baghdad Bob," (also known as "Comical Ali") . But at the bottom of the story, she adds:

"Much of Wilson's book recounts the events surrounding the disclosure that his wife, Valerie Plame, worked for the CIA. A grand jury investigating the disclosure has been highly active in the past seven weeks, suggesting that it may have reached a new stage, people familiar with the probe said. Plame was a covert operative. Under the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982, it is illegal to knowingly disclose the name of a covert CIA employee.

"FBI agents and prosecutors have interviewed some current and former White House officials repeatedly, people involved in the case said. Several administration officials testified before the grand jury in recent weeks."

Mark Memmott writes in USA Today: "Vice President Cheney was aware of a meeting held by his staff that started a chain of events that ended with the 'effective betrayal of our country,' former U.S. diplomat Joseph Wilson charged Thursday in an interview with USA TODAY."

Jonathan S. Landay of Knight Ridder Newspapers also spoke to Wilson, who said that "Vice President Dick Cheney's office mounted a campaign to discredit him after he challenged President Bush's claim that Saddam Hussein had secretly tried to buy uranium in Africa for nuclear weapons."

11. This is still going to be a huge problem for Bush according to
Howard "The Duck" Fineman. I saw him on one of the talking head shows a few weeks ago and he said that this story is going to explode sometime in the next few months.

He said one of the big stories is not just who revealed Plame's identity but who lied to investigators.

12. Wilson will be on Olberman on Tuesday.
Any 60 minutes? or as far as the media is concerned, was this book published too soon after Woodward? Yet this is the one issue that's a total slam dunk impeaching crime, at minimum Rove, Chaney. I'm sure there is a tape with the three of mulling over their deed against Plame. Remember John Dililio's rant on how they would sit and just rant and scam on how to hurt their enemies.

13. I think things are happening
behind the scenes. I did some reading about Elliott Abrahms. The CIA hates him. Condi Rice picked him. I just don't believe the CIA will let this slide. Our job, is to not let the story get smothered with Micheal Jackson/Kobe Bryant stories. That is what they trying to do. Notice the complete silence on the book so far. If the story stays alive, then when they have enough to bring a case, it will seem like a logical progression.
