Iraq abuse allegations multiply
<clips>

The alleged abuses include the stripping and beating of a 12-year-old girl and an imam being forced to wear women's underwear and locked up with female prisoners.

According to Italy's La Repubblica newspaper, a group of Sunni clerics is compiling a list of complaints from inmates at Baghdad's infamous Abu Ghraib jail.

The Council of the Ulema is about to make its findings public, the paper said.

The acts described by the alleged victims seem to have one trait in common - all involve some form of humiliation or degradation, often of a sexual nature.

3. Embrace the hate....
Edited on Mon May-10-04 08:30 PM by WillW
I don't know how anyone can remain friends with Republicans. Anyone who supports this president or supports this madness is a sick, worthless son of a bitch. These people are beyond reform. I, personally, have polarized myself to the point where I will not associate with any of these these people, former friends or rotten to the core family.

That anyone (insert your favorite RW radio/tv jockey here) could go on the air and justify this, and worse yet, have a bunch of jello-brained, half-witted, dittoheads calling into to root "woohoo..we done learned dem evildewars", makes me sick to the point where I can hardly be near one of them without taking a swing.

Embrace the hate.. Despise these people with all your heart. You'll feel better.

11. I am surrounded by people who have no clue,...
,...and who cannot digest the proposition that, while they are doing their best to make lemonade out of lemons and "assume" their government is doing its best to represent them,...they are somehow presumed to swallow "hatred".

You can embrace hatred all you will. I do it for the first time in my life and refuse to encourage others towards that feeling. I prefer to inform, inform, inform while acknowledging my hatred towards abolitions against the best of humanity.

15. WillW...........
I don`t plan on embracing hatred as a normal daily activity, but you did raise some points that struck a cord with me.

I will absolutely NEVER watch Fox News or listen to Rush Limbaugh. When Bush`s political ads are shown on television, I turn the thing off. Ann Coulter or anyone else of that ilk gets the same treatment.

A few months ago I stopped corresponding with a rabid right wing friend of over twenty years. I`ve had enough of this crap where down is up and wrong is right. I`m not listening any more to how Saddam hired pilots to fly planes into the Twin Towers or how WMD has been found in Iraq but the liberal press refuses to report it. I don`t buy the "fact" that diversity has ruined this country or that Reservists should never complain about their pay because "They`re getting a few hundred bucks a month for doing nothing." According to this wingnut, even those wounded should shut up because they have it easy at Walter Reed. Twenty years ago, this guy was a liberal. Now he wants to nuke Iraq and close down all mental health facilities in the United States. I`m going to stay away from him, his growing gun collection and his warped definition of patriotism.

Like you, I never listen/watch the RW wackos. They're way to toxic and I have no intention of being among the many who feed their ratings by tuning them in. The ToxicTexan is bad enough and rather than watch that imbecile I usually read the transcripts.

Your former friend sounds like he's ready for a mental institution. I don't blame you for losing him.

Peace!!

24. I saw Howard Dean last week and he said
that we are in a civil war and that this is no time to be nice and polite. I have joined up with his campaign to build a progressive, grassroots movement to promote progressive candidates and politics at every level -- including trying to influence the Democratic Party. His DFA is like a leftist antidote to the right wing Christian Coalition. I mean those guys have been lining up their ducks for a couple of decades and now they run everything. We have to provide an alternative vision for America -- or lose it forever!

SCHINDLER'S LIST

Ralph Fiennes plays a chilling Amon Goeth in the movie, and plays him to the point that some
people have had trouble distinguishing him from the real thing.

Poldek Pfefferberg, one of the Schindler Jews, famously said, "When you saw Göeth, you saw
death."

13. Good. Everything needs to come out, and if it comes from the
Iraqis, then this government can't hide it. If they'd had any brains at all from Bush to Rumsfeld to the generals on the ground, they should have kept the women prisoners in a separate area, and had only women guards for them; the men in another area with only male guards. But of course that makes too much sense for this incompetent crowd of dipshits. They shou;d have made sure not to trample the cultural and religious rules of a sovereign country which was illegally invaded, aside from the abuses they committed. After all they kept babbling about the hearts and minds of the people. Way to go stupids!

20. Based on what I have seen, we are sick perverts
We have violated the basic tenets of the Islamic religion because we don't give a bleep. Islam varies in such a small degree from Christianity but has been seriously abused by those who seek to radicalize religion for political purposes.
We think we are so cool that only we can be violent sick as heck perverts abusing the cultural mores of a country we invaded illegally, clearly have no understanding of its history as the "cradle of civilation" and still think we are on "Gods side".
Well folks , I had a vision last night and basically this agnostic recieved a late night message. God is on our side. It was scary and frightening. I was just about to go to sleep when I was struck like a lightning bolt by the impossibility of our existence, but here we ARE. I got out of bed and went downstairs and looked outside at an incredibly clear sky. It was windy. I felt God even though I have serious doubts. I told him(in my mind) that I can't accept him if he is part of this fake war. I'd rather go to hell if this is what He is about. I think we are about to feel His retribution against the Pharisees. Note to all, I am a little freaked out and in my (conversation in my mind told God that I would continue to live by the principles that got me this far, fairness, equality, justice for all and if he was on the side of the neocons he should count me out as I want no part of THAT heaven).
I know there have been many who want to minimize what we have done in Iraq, but what we have done is a war crime, and has besmirched all that America has stood for since WW2. We have lost all that. We have humiliated an entire culture FOR A LIE. I will not be a part of that.
And hey, God, I still am not sure about you, I question your choices, you must exist because if you don't we could not exist. Get your act together, and give us a break from the idiots.

25. Strange you should mention this.
A couple nights ago I was at the computer, pounding away on the keyboard, and I was suddenly struck by the thought that nearing the election, with the current scandal (and more to undoutably come) escalating, the prospect of impeachment and possibly criminal action looming, and poll numbers sinking like a rock, that * may commit suicide along with Rice. What made it so odd was that I was not contemplating anything of that nature.

28. Americans ARE sick perverts. Look at the murder and mayhem
we've brought to countless countries around the world. Millions are dead because of Uncle Sam's *democracy*.

Folks seem to think nothing like this has ever happened before--guess what, this is the first time its been brought to light in PHOTOS. It's been going on for more than 100 years. Wanna see some really sick shit? Do a little reading into what RayGun and the boys did in Central America--those same atrocities are now being committed in Colombia but we never hear word one about that country. Do a bit of reading into the genocide of millions of Native Americans on US soil.

This is NOT new. The US true colors are just being exposed, FINALLY, to its own citizens. And it's about f*ck'n time that we as a nation took responsibility for the cruelty and despair we have brought to others. :puke:

22. The Guantanamo detainees have been there 3 years
Given our track record, how much torture do they expect these men to endure before they tell them whatever story they want to hear??? I venture to guess most are innocents in the sense that they were defending their country. Our admin chose to disregard this and consider anyone who doen't bow down to the Bush "way of things" an enemy with NO rights.

29. "Guantanamos all over the place"
From an interview with Seymour Hersch, Pulitzer Prize winning reporter who exposed Mai Lai and is currently exposing US-war crimes in Iraq, had this to say yesterday on Democracy NOW!

<clips>

...And Ricardo Sanchez -- all of this is I write in this article, promulgated an order, they call it a FRAGO, frag operation order, promulgated an order last November 19 putting military intelligence in charge of all the prisons. And that meant that the interrogators -- literally that meant you were going to end up with Guantanamos all over the place.

31. check this out from cbs news article
Attorneys for an Army reservist who was photographed smiling and pointing at naked, bound Iraqi prisoners said she had been ordered to pose because her presence would be especially humiliating to the men.

The photos were staged by intelligence agents to intimidate other prisoners, and appearing naked in front of a young woman would be especially humiliating to Iraqi men, attorney Rose Mary Zapor said Monday.

"The (soldiers) pictured were congratulated. They were told the photographs were successful in gathering information," Zapor said.

Another of England's Denver-based attorneys, Giorgio Ra'shadd, said his client was being offered up as a scapegoat for the mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners.
