...and Shafiq bin Laden, Osama bin Laden's estranged half-brother were doing together. They were both attending an annual international investor conference held by the Carlyle Group on the morning of September 11, 2001, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C. Whether or not Poppy and Shafiq actually had coffee together is open to a great deal of conjecture, IMHO, as is the idea that Osama wanted to expose the Bush and Bin Laden business dealings.
It's of greater concern to me that Pakistan's ISI Director Lt. Gen. Mahmood Ahmed was visiting Washington from September 4 - 16, 2001. On September 10, a Pakistani newspaper reported <
http://www.fromthewilderness.com/timeline/2001/news091001.html> on his trip indicating that his visit has "triggered speculation about the agenda of his mysterious meetings at the Pentagon and National Security Council" as well as meetings with CIA Director Tenet, unspecified officials at the White House and the Pentagon, and his "most important meeting" with Mark Grossman, US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. The article suggested that "of course, Osama bin Laden" could be the focus of some discussions. Prophetically, the article adds, "What added interest to his visit is the history of such visits. Last time (his) predecessor was (in Washington), the domestic (Pakistani) politics turned topsy-turvy within days." This is a reference to the Musharraf coup just after a previous ISI Director's visit. Mahmood is meeting in Washington when the 9/11 attacks begin, and extends his stay until September 16.
I personally think the 911 attack was given the "go" order because of the perfect weather conditions on the East Coast. One of the goals of a terrorist act is to either have it televised as it is happening, or as soon as possible after the event has taken place. That spreads the fear and panic much farther than just the relatively small area that is immediately impacted.
The timing of the impacts of the two planes on the WTC towers approximately fifteen to twenty minutes apart was well-planned, IMHO. The impact of the first plane caused every television camera in New York to be focused on the WTC within minutes, and caused every news network, foreign and domestic, to come on the air with live special reports. When the second plane struck, nearly everyone watching television at that point in time actually saw the impact as it took place. By the time the towers began to fall, those viewing the event had to have increased to a phenominally large number.
