Ashcroft out if W's in - mag
Attorney General John Ashcroft's days in the Bush administration may be numbered.

Former Ashcroft deputy Larry Thompson is in line to become the nation's top cop if President Bush is reelected in November, Time magazine reports.

Thompson, an African-American, left government service after serving almost two years under Ashcroft and is a law professor at the University of Georgia. He recently joined Bush in Buffalo at an event promoting the Patriot Act.

"Larry, we miss you over there," Bush said at the event. "Don't get too comfortable."

"Ashcroft will not be the A.G. by Christmas if Bush wins," one source told Time.

1. Asscrack should have been fired on 9/12/01
...along with Rice, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and Perle.

If ($DEITY forbid) * gets elected, Ashcroft stays. Mark my words.

7. BushInc is PURPOSELY pushing this in the media
to woo back moderate voters. What a focking con game. Playing to moderates in the campaign and then governing as rightwing fascists.

Wonder how many moderates will be fooled THIS time.

20. You Have a High B.S. Antenna, BLM.
I agree. See my post below (#19).

Karl Rove reads polls and knows that Ascroft is TEMPORARILY a political liability and sending this false signal through un-named sources is a way to remove Ascroft from the political debate before the election. They will never get rid of this man.

8. Ashcroft Will Run For President
He will want to be a private citizen, not AG. May very well be the Christian Right candidate. I'm not sure who else would take that banner.

11. B.S. smokescreen. If Ashcroft is out, he should be out now. Shrub
is trying to become a "compassionate conservative" again without pissing off the rw fundies by firing Ashcroft. Hopefully this will rile up the fundies enough so that shrub has to pledge to keep Ashcroft as AG.

13. I still don't give a two-bit damn if Ashcroft resigns
The junta must be ousted, period. Altogether. Once and for all. At the earliest oppotunity.

As for Thompson, no one who supports the police state provisions of the Patriot is qualified to be Attorney General.

14. But Rummy is still the best Sec. of Def.
a boy could ever dream of?

There is no magic bullet for the Bush administration.
The closest thing he could do to win would be to drop
Cheney/Rummy/Rice/Rove and to run with Powell in the Veep slot.
and put McCain in as SECDEF. Put Tucker Carlson in Rove's chair.

That might be enough, with immense luck, and deep pockets, to do it.

Of course, there would be no reason to have Bush. In that case they should stage a convention mutiny. Nominate Giuliani, maybe.

19. Don't Believe This Fabricated, Sugar-Coated Crap For One Second.
Edited on Mon May-31-04 05:20 PM by David Zephyr
This is only one more knot in a very long string of intentionally misleading statements with regards to the intentions of the Republican Party.

We've heard all of this shit before for decades.

Nixon: "Peace is at hand (if you'll elect me)"

Reagan: "Morning in America" "City on a shining hill (if you'll elect me)"

Bush: "A kinder, more gentler nation (than Reagan's if you'll elect me)"

Lee Atwater (and Karl Rove): "A big tent party (if you'll re-elect GH Bush)"

George W. Bush: "Compassionate conservatism" and "uniter not a divider" .... "if you'll elect me"

---------

George W. Bush has no intentions of forcing out John Ascroft from the AG position because he knows that Ascroft will implement Patriot Act II without quibbles and doubts about Constitutional merit.

---------

Don't buy into this bullshit for one second. The religious right will never allow Ashcroft to be removed...even if Bush wanted to do it (which he doesn't).
