Bush compares Iraq, terror wars to World War II
'We will accept nothing less than victory'

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- Invoking the words of Ronald Reagan, President Bush on Wednesday compared the war in Iraq and the fight against terrorism to World War II and the battle against communism.

Speaking at a commencement ceremony at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Bush repeated a line from former President Reagan.

"We believe in Ronald Reagan's words that 'the future belongs to the free.' In some ways, this struggle we're in is unique," Bush told the graduates. "In other ways, it resembles the great clashes of the last century between those who put their trust in tyrants and those who put their trust in liberty.

"Our goal -- the goal of this generation -- is the same. We will secure our nation and defend the peace through the forward march of freedom."

Bush Likens War on Terror to WWII

By David Morgan

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Reuters) - President Bush on Wednesday compared his war on terror to America's mission in World War II, likening the Sept. 11 attacks to Pearl Harbor and the upheavals in the Middle East to Cold War Europe. <snip>

"Like the Second World War, our present conflict began with a ruthless surprise attack on the United States. We will not forget that treachery and we will accept nothing less than victory over the enemy," Bush said. <snip>

The president has repeatedly held out the prospect of a democratic Iraq as a catalyst for political and economic reform across the region through a proposal called the Greater Middle East Initiative, which he will push at next week's Group of Eight summit during meetings with Western and Arab leaders.

Administration officials have often compared the March 2003 invasion of Iraq with the Allied invasion of Europe that brought cheering crowds of newly liberated citizens into the streets to greet American soldiers.<snip>

7. RPGs are not the same as cheering crowds
At least not in my book. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall any "ruthless surprise attack on the United States" by Iraq. I remember Saddam being an oppressive leader to his own people (If they rise up at the US's request, he would respond like that, wouldn't he), but I sure don't remember him oppressing Americans.

Maybe he used all those supposed "WMDs" to spook all the Americans that visted him (like half of the current administration!).

10. Flippity Flop
This from a man who, during the 2000 debates, swore up and down that he was opposed to "nation building." I wish one journalist or media pundit (beside Jon Stewart, bless his heart) had the balls to call Bush on this flip flopping.

12. "Victory"
in a war on a tactic is impossible.

"Bankruptcy" for the American citizenry is highly possible, though.

"Cayman Islands bank accounts" are very likely for war profiteers associated with the BFEE.
