Israel bulldozes more Rafah homes
Israel bulldozes more Rafah homes
Thursday 03 June 2004

Israeli troops have destroyed yet more homes in the occupied Gaza Strip refugee camp of Rafah where 1650 Palestinians were made homeless in raids last month.

At least 18 houses were demolished in the latest campaign before dawn on Thursday, said Palestinian security officials. Israel claimed the homes were used in resistance attacks against occupation troops.

Israeli forces re-invaded parts of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday to search for alleged arms smuggling tunnels that run under the Gaza border with Egypt. Palestinians deny any such tunnels exist.

Last month in Rafah Israeli troops killed 55 Palestinians - mainly civilians - and destroyed hundreds of homes.

1. oh, and a tank fired on a school
from the same:--

--snip--

An Israeli tank opened fire on an UNRWA school in the Tal al-Sultan neighbourhood, the scene of some of the deadliest attacks during last month's siege, said the group in a statement on Wednesday. Bullets or shrapnel entered the classroom, hitting one boy in the head.

The second boy, Mahmud Nathmey Hamad, was struck in the neck and is in serious condition.

"This is the second time in a little over a year that a child in a UN classroom has been struck by Israeli fire. Such indifference to the sanctity of schools and the UN flags flying above them violates all humanitarian norms and is absolutely deplorable," said Peter Hansen, UNRWA's commissioner general.

2. Yeah right
An Israel hate website claims Israel fired on a school with a tank and we are just supposed to believe this crap? If alcrapzeera told me the sun came up in Israel today I would doubt it.

Brownie points on the side, however, for apparently coining the phrase "alcrapzeera".

If this was 2nd grade, we'd crown you king for such wit.

Note, however, the actual source:--...said Peter Hansen, UNRWA's commissioner general...

Unless you want to go all John Birch on us, I'd think he has a better idea of what happened than you do.

7. Well you know, any criticism of Israel is anti-semitic.
They are the paragon of decency--the beacon for the world. Teeny lil' Israel, they get more US foreign aid and weapons than any nation on earth and have violated over 30 UN resolutions. We fight their wars. WMD's you say? Israel needs nuclear weapons and that powerful military to defend itself against boy terrorists throwing rocks at tanks. You see, the Arabs are pushing Israel into the sea, but it is the Israelis settling on the bulldozed land of former Palestinian homes.

5. Wasn't this...
What the UN resolution was concerned about? The one which the US didn't veto?

Isn't demolishing civilians houses a war crime?

6. technically a "war crime", yes
but it's not like anything will be done about it, aside from ensuring that it remains often repeated.

8. Not if the houses are used to smuggle weapons
or to attack Israelis. I don't blame Israel for taking a hard line against those that kill their children and not too long ago tried to push them into the sea. I'd give no quarter to those that unjustifiably try to destroy me.
