Soros Says War Makes U.S. Perpetrators, Not Victims
By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Billionaire financier George Soros said on Thursday the war on terror turned Americans from victims to perpetrators and had claimed more innocent lives than the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Soros, who has donated millions of his personal fortune toward defeating President Bush (news - web sites) in November, compared the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. troops at Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison to the attacks in New York and Washington.

The pictures of prison abuse in Iraq (news - web sites) were "a moment of truth" for the United States and "hit us the same way as the terrorist attack itself," he said.

"There is, I'm afraid, a direct connection between those two events. The way President Bush conducted the war on terror converted us from victims to perpetrators," he told a conference of about 2,000 progressives in a Washington hotel.

"The war on terror, as conducted by this administration, has claimed more innocent victims than the original attack itself," he said.

1. That was the whole point of this war...

An eye for an eye. That's why the freeps love this war so much....it's about payback and they are really emotionally involved....yet they don't have to fight in it.

2. Didn't Putin take care of the rich man who was always against him
recently stating that he had done something illegal and taken control of his $$$?

Wonder if this regime is up to the same tactics?

3. Psssst...
American foreign policy has been a perpetrator of abuse, death and destruction for DECADES. Success has so emboldened the players that they don't realize how TRANSPARENT their atrocities are...

12. Already happened *smile*.
I've watched Soros speak, studied his "open society" philosophy, read his books and witnessed his commitment to social justice and, well, just hope for humanity. I only WISH I could work for/with such powerful individual.

And, he's right,...the Bush policy has turned us into perpetrators; but, I would take a step further and even say "predators".

THAT should cause us to stop and reflect a moment on the morality of the Bushista's wars. But somehow this call for introspection drives the wingnuts into a frothing rage.

,...but rather irrationally reactive.
