Four U.S. Soldiers Killed, Five Wounded in Baghdad
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=topNews&storyID=5346054§ion=news

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Four U.S. soldiers were killed and five wounded on Friday when an explosion hit their vehicle in eastern Baghdad, a U.S. military spokesman said.

Reuters reporters had earlier seen soldiers dragging away the bodies of several troops from the smoking wreckage of a vehicle destroyed by an explosion on a dual carriageway.

...very short newsblurb...

My heartfelt condolences for all those that have lost their lives or had their lives ruined by the actions of the maladministration's illegal invasion of a sovereign nation.

2. It's the old story
People get desensitised to any event that keeps repeating. Its so unfair as well as every life is worth the same, be it the first soldier killed, the last soldier killer, an Iraqi child or even Monkeyboy.

5. Remember this is *all* on Rumsfeld
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 08:17 AM by ElectroPrincess
IF we would have listened to the honorable General Officers in the Pentagon instead of allowing those vampire Civilians of the present Administration (Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith<sp?>, Perle, etc.) *purge* the military and replace them with Yes-Men, we'd have had 300,000 troops to seal the borders of Iraq and discourage looting. A number of retiring generals also had the beginnings of a viable "exit plan" that was sent down the memory hole as soon as they were dismissed by "Mr. Know it all" Donald Rumsfeld.

Dispite all the misleading, these Administration's PNAC Neocons are so arrogant, they dismissed the lauded four star Generals like Zinni, in favor of spring-butts like Myers. Why? Because they wanted to do it on the cheap and complement with greedy contracts in order make their corporation friends wealthy. Their pride and greed will be their downfall, but because we "bought it" the price is the loss of far too many precious USA sons and daughters. Also, the "collateral damage" of Iraqi's - thousands of innocent civilians.

Like the disco song goes, "George W. Bush, you're one scary MF!" But it's not W specifically but his Puppet Masters who are to blame.

On Edit: Yes, please accept my warm welcome Tripmann. It's never too early to return the kindness that was granted me when I was brand new. :-)

15. I don't believe we ever got the heads-up on the bombing,...
,...on ammunition dumps up North. All I recall was a short blip on the news with no follow-up.

Of course, the freon neocons have set up a system of deception. We really haven't a clue about the actual losses to date.

I've added it to my favorites since it does seem to provide a bit more information than others I've saved.

Terribly sad, though. So many innocents suffering casualties just,...makes my heart bleed with anger and shame and mourning and frustration.

20. here's your photo of the arms dump explosion

Smoke rises after a rocket attack on the U.S. airport base in Kirkuk, on June 2, 2004. A guerrilla attack on a major U.S. military base in Iraq on Wednesday triggered a huge chain of explosions in an arms dump that left much of the area ablaze and shrouded in smoke, but no casualties were reported. 11. The concealment of the true costs of this war,...
,...is incomprehensibly immoral and unethical!!! The American people are only informed of losses involving death "in theatre" (and I don't believe all those in Afghanistan are reported any longer). Yet, we have thousands of men and women whose lives are permanently changed by catastophic loss of limb/sight/mind.

I find myself enraged at this leadership for such deceptive practices which diminishes the sacrifice of so many people.

I also find myself terribly saddened for all those whose lives have been negatively impacted by this horrid war.

25. "I ain't gon' study war no more,..."
"I speak out against this war because I am disappointed with America. There can be no great disappointment where there is no great love."

"I call on Washington today. I call on every man and woman of good will, all over America today. I call upon the young men of America who must make a choice today, to take a stand on this issue. Tomorrow may be too late! The book may close… Don't let anybody make you think that God chose America as his divine messianic force to be. A sort of the policeman of the world. God has a way of standing before the nations with judgment, and it seems like I can hear God saying to America, “you are too arrogant. If you don’t change your ways, I will rise up and break the backbone of your power and…place it in the hands of a nation that does not even know my name...."

36. But on the brighter side our troop deaths are back down to 600...
What happened to 800+?

Am I missing something?

This other article makes mention of 600 too:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1521&e=1&u=/afp/20040604/pl_afp/iraq_us_toll_600_040604184025

BAGHDAD (AFP) - The death toll of US troops killed in action in Iraq (news - web sites) exceeded 600 as five US soldiers were killed in an attack on their convoy on the edge of Baghdad's radical Shiite bastion of Sadr City.

------
That brought the number of US soldiers killed in action in Iraq to 600 but the military announced later that a fifth soldier had died in the attack.
------

This paragraph is where the "major combat declared over" distinction is made.
------
According to the US military, 601 of its soldiers have now been killed in action since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. Of those, 490 have died in action after US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) declared major combat in Iraq over on May 1.
