Watch out for new keystroke-recording virus - Korgo
Korgo, a new virus that can infect Windows 2000 and XP systems simply by connecting them to the internet, continued to spread worldwide on Friday, installing a tiny spy that can record what keys were pressed at secret moments such as typing passwords.

Korgo first showed up on May 22 and is now circulating in at least six versions. The antidote is a free programme code-named "KB835732" from the Microsoft website, but analysts said the spread of Korgo suggests millions of PC users have not yet taken the medicine.

Christoph Fischer, a German expert on viruses, said there was no sign yet that Korgo was leading to an upsurge in internet traffic.

Says surfaced on May 22 but I haven't heard anything about it? Not on the DU anywhere?

7. Critical: not critical?
"Are Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition critically affected by any of the vulnerabilities that are addressed in this security bulletin?
No. None of these vulnerabilities are critical in severity on Windows 98, on Windows 98 Second Edition, or on Windows Millennium Edition."
From the FAQ section of:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms04-011.mspx

I guess it's not considered critical because someone stealing your password and logging your keystrokes is no big deal. {sarcasm} Presumably, since the top of the page indicates it is a "critical" issue, Win98 being out of its "support phase" must be why it isn't critical.

Just more doublespeak. Critical: not critical

9. Some fairly obscure attacks possible.
One seems to involve net conferencing, one is a way to crash
your system. I am not worried (running 98se) about the keystroke
problem.

8. If you're on the internet you should have a firewall anyway.
The free version of Zone Alarm would stop this thing dead in it's tracks.

Even dial-up users should have a firewall nowadays. Too many port scanners out there.
