Pollster: Kerry narrows Bush lead in La. YAY!!
http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/WWL060404KerryLa.22b2b775f.html

" BATON ROUGE - A new poll shows that John Kerry is moving up against President George Bush in Louisiana, narrowing a ten-point lead held by Bush in March to six points.

The poll shows Bush leading his Democratic challenger 48 to 42 percent, nearly within the poll's margin of error.

The movement could be because of Kerry's aggressive ad-buying strategy in Louisiana. He unexpectedly added the Republican-leaning state to his list of battleground states, forcing the President to launch an ad counter-strike.

The poll was conducted by Verne Kennedy of Marketing Research Institute Incorporated of Pensacola, Florida. It has a margin of error of plus or minus four percent, and was conducted among 600 Louisiana voters at the end of May. It was done for businessmen around the state.

1. If the MOE is 4%, then Kerry is within it
Great! This forces Stupidhead to spend money shoring up Louisiana that he then won't have to spend in other states. Not that I'm writing off the Bayou State, but I'm pretty sure that the Bush campaign geniuses didn't plan to have to do much there. Watch Dopey head to New Orleans or Baton Rouge shortly after he gets back from Yurp.

Hee, hee, hee.

6. Is that how MOE works?
I had always understood MOE to refer to the poll itself, not to each candidates numbers, meaning that a six point lead could be either a two point or a ten point lead, not that you can add 4 points to each candidates totals. I've heard the media use the latter explanation, but I don't trust the media much these days.

Anyone have a definitive answer on this?

3. LA not so GOP leaning
Mary Landrieu was re-elected to the Senate, even though the Bushies really got behind her opponent. They recently elected a Dem governor (another woman, Kathleen Blanco). Add the fact that the more heavily populated south LA is solidly Catholic and usually leans Democratic. Redneck north LA, the land of gun-toting bubbas (I know, I used to live there), will vote for Bush. But, on the whole, I think Kerry has a chance, and I'm glad he's buying ads there.

4. I agree priller
i too hail from N.La....not proud of that at all!

but if the people down here in New Orleans get out and vote, kerry has a chance for sure!

And by the way...there's been PLENTY of Pro-Bush Anti Kerry ads down here. Felt like i was being bombarded for a while. SO they are spending plenty of $ here as well.

7. Don't forget the military presence.
The military support for Bush-- over-estimated in the first place-- is shrinking. That will effect parts of central La, too.

There also are other good state polls for Kerry that were just released: He's only behind by 4 in North Carolina, and is ahead by 6 in West Virginia. Both are red states.
