New Plan Would Let Iraq Order Troops Out (UN resolution)
New Plan Would Let Iraq Order Troops Out
By EDITH M. LEDERER, Associated Press Writer

UNITED NATIONS - The United States and Britain revised their Security Council resolution on transferring sovereignty to Iraq on Friday, giving the country's new interim government authority to order the U.S.-led multinational force to leave at any time.

The previous draft introduced Tuesday declared the council's readiness to terminate the force's mandate by January 2006 or at the request of the transitional government formed after elections held by Jan. 31, 2005.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told the U.N. Security Council on Thursday that the incoming government wants the multinational force to stay to prevent civil war, and he told The Associated Press on Friday that he could not foresee its departure before power is transferred to the transitional government early next year.

The revised draft circulated to Security Council members includes what Secretary of State Colin Powell and British Prime Minister Tony Blair have stated publicly — that American and British troops will leave if asked.

It declares that the council will terminate the mandate for the multinational force after elections held by Dec. 31, 2005, or earlier "if requested by the sovereign government of Iraq."

wasn't that part of the plan anyway? The majority of the Iraqi people as I understand it do not want the USA or Britain in their country.

So, if they want us/them to leave we will.

Gee what a great plan!

U.S. Out of Iraq just in time for the next sElection dare I say while we leave a bombed out and devastated (not to mention "liberated") country behind. :puke:

2. Our people and the Iraqi people's interests are more important than
either politics or elections or religion.

If "cut and run" serves the best interests of the people, we should freakin' do it at the behest of those whose nation we occupy.

Flood the country with humanitarian aid, bring in the Muslim communities to help heal the wounds, get US corporatists and military the hell out of there unless the Iraqis ask otherwise. It's the courageous thing to do. It's the right thing to do.

3. I believe we should get out
However, I also believe that we should have never gone there to begin with.

Now we have a big mess. Do they want help? Is this part of the latest "offer"?

4. Now that bush and the neocons have installed their puppets...
they feel safe enough and are desperate enough to change the wording in the resolution knowing that the puppet interim government is NOT going to request they leave.
