Pope wants US out of Iraq immediately
http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/720514.cms

ROME : Pope John Paul II piled pressure on US president George W Bush over Iraq when they met on Friday while beyond the walls of the Vatican City more rowdy anti-war protesters attempted to disrupt the US president’s visit to Rome

During a three-day trip to Italy and France , Mr Bush will seek international support for his Iraq mission and commemorate the June 1944 liberation of Rome and the D-Day invasion of Normandy .

The Pope, who strongly opposed the US-led war in Iraq , spoke of his concern for the “grave unrest” in the Middle East and called for the “speedy return of Iraq ’s sovereignty”.

“It is the evident desire of everyone that this situation now be normalised as quickly as possible with the active participation of the international community and, in particular, the United Nations Organization,” the Pope said. Mr Bush said his government would work for “human liberty and human dignity”.

1. So Bush*'s kiss-up shoveling of the word "freedom" had no effect?
Nice to know the Pope's brain is still somewhat semi-functional...

Unlike Bush*, who, as always, SAYS honorable and noble things but then DOES or ALLOWS the most despicable things. He or Rummy are ultimately responsible to the atrocities in Iraq, yet Rummy gets praised by Bush and only few seemed to have gotten prosecuted, with the only end result is the old jail being torn down with a new security-camera-laden one built. Security cameras won't make a bit of difference if those behind the cameras are just as corrupt, but they do have to keep up the facade, don't they?

10. what is the deal with the black veil?
I am a Catholic and women don't wear veils anymore in the Church. Why was Laura Bush wearing one? Is she trying to be a super duper Catholic or something?

I knew the pope would read * the riot act in some way being he is so anti-war. You'd be too! I was reading portions of his biography and good God, what a life the pope has lived.

16. It's still required in the Vatican
My sister visited with my grandmother many years ago and they had to wear knee-length skirts (no shorts allowed) and their heads had to be covered with a veil. That rule extends pretty much throughout the country from what I've heard.

when your temporal lobes are undergoing a spasm.

"Wait. where am I? Where's my scotch? Who's the old dude in the robes? and Why is he angry with me? What the fuck is going on? Oh, wait, I'm president! OK, now, I'll just smirk and nod my head. That ought to hold 'em while I figure out what is going on here. MOMMY come help me! I'm lost again!"

20. Exactly and Laura puts on that constipated, worried look
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 02:54 PM by Marianne
that someone told her to practice. She is as dumb as rocks, and we have this photo op of her as a concerned, yet constipated, and agonized person. She should be happy and smiling at the Pope. Notice how the lighting is on her face? It is artificial and must have been photoshopped.

The both of them are disgusting trailer trash who do not know how to behave and do not even care, it seems, because I am certain they consider themselves entitled.

I am sick of these two phony persons going to Europe on my money, when there are such terrible problems in the world. I am sick of them both posing and posturing before the world, while people are dying, and while peopoe in their own country have no health care and need to sacrifice their lives in order to come anywhere near a college education.

I am sick of these two stupid, dull and ignorant persons forcing themselves upon this nation as our representatives and leader, worlwide.

I cannot stand to look at the play acting on the part of an evil man and his stupid balloon assed wife.

22. Can anyone get this pix to post?
For some reason, I can't get it to post here in case they remove it since it's apparent that * is more interested in another photo op and watching to see who's looking at him from the pix! Truly disgraceful!

14. Who Cares
what the Pope wants? I'd be even more worried than I currently am if Idiot Boy went over there, listened to the Pope, and suddenly said, "Oh, well if the POPE wants us out, we better skeedaddle."

15. Did the Pope accept the trinket Bush had for him?
I think it was some kind of humanitarian award (such irony, Bush!!).

Now if I was the Pope, and I sincerely believed that Bush is the Anti-Christ, and I'm completely opposed to this war, I would refuse to accept the award.

It has to do with principles (just a small matter)

19. Awarding the Pope
Can Bush even give an award to the Pope? Isn't the Pope higher in the god-hierarchy than a mere president. Wouldn't this be the same as a Major giving a General a military honor?

24. How much clearer can the Pope be on this Iraq War ?
Get out usually means GET OUT.
And he did say something to the effect, before it started, that anyone going to this war went with out God, in his humble opinion.
