Dissident DRC troops on the march
Bukavu - Dissident troops who this week took the key Democratic Republic of Congotown of Bukavu were on Saturday marching towards other towns in the east of the country, witnesses and United Nations sources said.

One column of these men, who are led by General Laurent Nkunda, a former rebel, reportedly left Bukavu on Friday, heading north-west to Walikale, according to the UN peacekeeping mission in DRC, Monuc.

Nkunda is estimated to have between 2 000 and 4 000 men under his command.

I really don't understand what criteria the media uses to label people/group;
terrorist, rebel, freedom fighter, coup force, mercenary...

1. DRC accuses Rwanda of fuelling fighting on border
Renegade troops began withdrawing from the Democratic Republic of Congo's flashpoint city of Bukavu on Friday but violent protests shook the capital, Kinshasa, for a second day.

United Nations peacekeepers moved to retake control of Bukavu, a strategic eastern city bordering Rwanda, as the dissident troops quit central districts scarred by looting and fighting.

However a renegade commander, General Laurent Nkunda, cast doubt on his promise to evacuate the city by on Friday night saying his men would take new positions around Bukavu, including at the airport about 30km to the north, to fend off a possible counter-attack by government troops.

2. "I am not a mutineer"
The BBC today is calling Nkunda's troops "rebels": DR Congo rebels take new town. Other times they say "dissident."

I have sensed a reluctance on the part of MONUC and others to say "rebel" is because they don't want to admit that the Lusaka Ceasefire has failed, or they want to salvage it as much as possible. But it's becoming harder to ignore that this conflict is developing along the same dimensions as the last one.
