Controversial 'Stepford Wives' Ad Shows Hillary, Condoleezza
http://www.local10.com/entertainment/3393039/detail.html

Some people are saying the way Hillary Clinton and Condoleezza Rice are portrayed in an ad for the new "Stepford Wives" film is distasteful, even outrageous.

The spot shows an image of Rice made to look nude from the waist up, and a picture of Clinton that morphs into what looks like a cookie-baking Stepford wife.

The pictures move across the screen very quickly, but they caught the eye of a Kansas City woman, who recorded the spot to make sure of what she was seeing.
Becky Reynolds said when she taped and watched the ad again, she "realized it was even worse" that what she'd suspected.

"It's just inappropriate, and it needs to be stopped," Reynolds said.

5. Yeah, but...
They got the REAL First Lady for each of the last two Presidents. At least, if you believe anything Rice says.

4. Since Condi's only getting boinked on the side by Dubya
She'd have to be a Stepford Mistress.

8. This doesn't even make sense
Rice isn't even married (unless you count her "close relationship" with the Bush's) and Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton is about as far from a Stepford Wife as you can get (with the possible exception of putting up with infidelity). Plus, the movie company is shamelessly using their images without permission. Given how far they are from actually fitting the criteria, it is a stretch to claim that this is covered by editorial content. They should probably sue.

9. uh, political figures are fair game - you don't need permission
if you did, I'd be sitting in a jail cell somewhere.

10. I am not sure if I agree
This seems more like using a person's image to promote a commercial product than fair editorial comment, to me. I could see it better if the movie was a satire about working women, rather than the perfect wife. But, I am no lawyer, and it is probably a pretty tricky area of law. Besides, I haven't seen either version of the movie.

If the image of Minnie Mouse was being used we would no doubt see a lawsuit (granted, Minnie is not a politician, although many politicians could fairly be described as Mickey Mouse).

21. I haven't seen the movie
So, maybe I just shouldn't have weighed in on it. Do you think they mean to compare Clinton and Rice to the protagonist or the robots?

14. These folks don't get it
People who try to stop other people from seeing something -- a movie, a play or whatever -- for religious or "moral" issues or for whatever reason, only generate more publicity for the thing they are trying to stop.

Paramount is getting free publicity for its movie. They are laughing all the way to the bank.

15. Not quite laughing to the bank
"Paramount is getting free publicity for its movie. They are laughing all the way to the bank. "

Not likely. "Wives" is going to be a thermonuclear bomb at the box office. Plus it cost over $100 mil.

22. Workers in a local gay bar were wearing promotional t-shirts for the movie
I thought it was strange. I had never seen workers wear promotional items at this place before. I found it interesting that "Stepford Wives" would promote at a gay bar, but it really makes sense. I think the content is progressive.
