Economy provides no boost for Bush
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 09:48 PM by JoFerret
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A29652-2004Jun9.html

The nation's economy is growing smartly, wages have begun to rise, and employers have added more than 1.4 million jobs to their payrolls in the past nine months. Yet voters continue to give President Bush poor ratings on his handling of the economy.

It may sound baffling, but interviews with voters, pollsters and economists suggest Bush's stubborn difficulties on domestic policy boil down to an obvious problem abroad.

"It all goes back to Iraq," said Steven Valerga, 50, a Republican in Martinez, Calif., who voted for Bush in 2000 but plans to vote for Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) in November. "It's a drain on the economy, when there's so much needed elsewhere. My gosh, we didn't need to be there."

War has usually been good for the economy in the short run, and this one appears no different. In the first three months of this year, defense work accounted for nearly 16 percent of the nation's economic growth, according to the Commerce Department.

1. Morans such as this actually vote:
"During the Clinton years, Jeremy Tuck said he had been selling mobile homes in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and at $45,000 a year, making good money. Last year, he was assembling mobile homes, earning $15,000 and living hand-to-mouth. But Bush has his vote this November. Had Gore been elected in 2000, Tuck said, "we would've been taken over by Saddam Hussein or bin Laden."

Had Al Gore been ELECTED, Sept 11 would have NEVER happened!

:scared:

3. Wow....
That quote really is scary. Funny how Neither SH or OBL managed to take over the country during 8 years of peace and prosperity. That is straight Dittohead drool... the Big Dog is so right about the rethug agenda to keep the masses mindless.

12. This mental sub-human can assemble his trailer houses
I wonder if he sees the dentist and has any teeth left-- one thing for sure, the rich running the country are laughing in amazement at how clueless goobers have been brainwashed to vote for the chimp. I;ll bet this guy is afraid a "negro" might go out with his daughter too.

10. What a typical thing for an Alabamian to say..
I hope when Roy Moore is elected governor by Alabama's whites next year, they secede again.

4. I find this a little puzzling....
Presidents are typically elected over domestic issues. It seems that, no matter how evil we are in other countries, as long as the economy is doing well, that president can count on being re-elected.

Even Bonehead Bush's dad, George Senior said the same thing recently, "the election is decided on domestic issues" said Old Dad.

So this tells me that the Local Yokels aren't very happy about the Domestic Situation.

11. The economy still sucketh horribly
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 05:04 AM by 0rganism
1.4 million jobs in 9 months is just about enough to keep up with work force growth. We're still down 2.7 million jobs since bush took over. He's grown the defecit AND the debt to mind-boggling proportions. The average salary for these "expanding jobs" is 13% lower, for those seeking replacement work (like yours truly). Soon, interest rates will rise and inflation will take its toll.

I pity the fool who has to take over the presidency once this asshat gets kicked out.

5. Wow! Jonathan Weisman is definitely on the Bush payroll. What a pile
of crap in this article. He seems desperate to find folks who will vote for Bush, even tracking down an elderly Democrat who has health problems but is going to vote for Bush because he's "on top of everything."

This is why I can't stand the WaPo!

8. "...wages have begun to rise..."
That means that they have been down. I missed that WaPo article. But the "smartly growing" economy makes it into this "negative" Chimp piece.

:freak:

The real economy: Depressed wages. Unemployment at 10%+. The widest historical gap between the rich and the poor. But HEY!, it's "smart" and "growing."

9. Ah! So, people are learning that we're not really a "merit-based" system.
Edited on Wed Jun-09-04 11:08 PM by Just Me
Democracy promises a merit based possibility; an economic justice.

The crude awakening is that, it's not what you know but who you know,...that makes you "profitable".

The "American Dream": marketed by those who profit by you buying.

<YES - I am really cranky, right now!!!>

13. Baffling? No.
The unemployed (& underemployed) know that we've never had a recovery. And nazi shills for this nazi administration, once Kerry gets elected, will start singing a different tune and will talk about how bad the economy is once Kerry is in the White House.

15. Maybe cause the rethug
economy provides no boost to the People and everyone can see it only benefits the wealthy and corporations and NO amount of propaganda spin is gonna change that.
