OAS to investigate Haiti coup, Aristede ouster.... |
|
here's the link: http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/americas/06/09/americas.haiti.ap/index.htmlHooray for Maxine Waters, who was, I believe, the first one Aristede phoned, and who has doggedly pursued this matter. Maxine is, IMO, the best fighter we have in Congress.

2. Very good news. I'm sure the reasons for the coup have little to do |
|
with anything other than the U.S. (and France's) desire to control events there, and protect their pocketbooks.

3. Look who's calling whom corrupt |
|
In other discussions, Secretary of State Colin Powell urged nations to "advance democratic governance and economic growth in this region" by fighting corruption.
"Corruption is deeply destructive of our people's faith in democracy," he said Monday during a debate on the general assembly's final document. "Corruption scares off investors, denying countries the money they need to lift themselves out of poverty and onto the road to sustainable development."
The document, signed by 34 foreign ministers or heads of delegations, recognizes "that corruption has a serious impact on public and private institutions, weakens economic growth and impinges upon the needs and fundamental interests of a country's most vulnerable social groups."
I'm sorry--but since D.C. is THE WORLD CAPITOL OF CORRUPTION, this is just a tiny bit hypocritical, isn't it??

I followed Radio Pacifica's coverage of the coup d'etat late at night and continued to read the stories on 'Democracy Now', when Amy Goodman interviewed Aristide while being in 'exile' in the Central African Republic. I always wondered which consequences the actions of the West would have.
Hopefully the perpetrators of this coup will be called to justice!

7. Mfume and the NAACP just paid tribute to the US military tonight in DC. |
|
I believe the NAACP did question the US 'complicity' in the coup against Aristide but they gave their 29th annual tribute dinner to the US military with a special tribute to the Air Force and a reception sponsored by Lockheed Martin.
WTF? I guess the military is an important NAACP client for jobs in the economic draft that African Americans suffer in. I still call it shilling for global lynching.

9. You mean members of the OAS are... skeptical? |
|
Think there may be more than meets the eye to the situation? *gasp*
Actually what is surprising is the taking of action upon that suspicion.
