US Negotiated Deal With Libya Despite Anti-Saudi Plot

Bush had denied pre-knowledge of the alleged assassination plot

CAIRO, June 15 (Islamonline.net) – American authorities had pre-knowledge of the alleged Libyan plot to assassinate Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdel-Aziz while negotiating with Tripoli renouncing its prohibited weapons program, revealed an American newspaper on Monday, June 14.

"Authorities went ahead with the negotiations because of the importance attached to Libya's disarmament and the fact that the alleged attack on Crown Prince Abdullah had been exposed and no longer posed a threat," US Today quoted government officials as having said.

It quoted them as saying they confronted the Libyans with the plot charges before Tripoli's decision to scrap programs to develop weapons of mass destruction.

"We made it clear to the Libyans that they had to stop," one official said, adding the Libyans "provided assurances that they wouldn't use violent means to settle political differences, but did not admit" the plot.

1. I hold the Saudi regime in contempt, but
