New Scandal Uncovered At Sun-Times
Paper Reportedly Overstated Circulation Numbers

CHICAGO -- A major scandal is unfolding at The Chicago Sun-Times.

The newspaper's parent company admitted it overstated its circulation numbers, which it uses to set advertising rates, WMAQ-TV reported.

An internal audit by The Sun-Times' owner -- Hollinger International -- uncovered what it calls an overstatement of circulation figures for the past several years.

According to an article in Wednesday's Chicago Tribune, sources indicate that the Sun-Times overstated its daily newsstand sales by at least 25 percent for the last two years and perhaps longer.
