A bum's rush feared at MSG (Clear out homeless for Repub Convention)

With the Republican National Convention looming, the city is urging the homeless to clear the streets near Madison Square Garden, sources told the Daily News.

City officials insisted they will not physically remove the homeless, characterizing their plan as a voluntary "outreach effort" aimed at providing shelter options in advance of the convention.

But advocates and homeless services providers left a meeting with the Department of Homeless Services last month - where the plan was discussed - with the impression that the goal is to clear the homeless away.

"It was the sweep nature of it," said one source, who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals.

Another source compared it with "sweeping dirty dishes" out of sight.

2. This is what ALL Third-World Dictatorship like Imperial Amerika
do with the homeless.

(and some of the Free World, too, but what have they to do with Imperial Amerika...they are nothing like that Slave Nation)

Not only is this going to happen, but it is going to happen with an Abu Grahib flair so common to the Empire's New Taskmasters.

5. Not a surprise, and not new either.
Any time NYC has a political convention, a show is made to sweep up homeless and prostitutes...this is standard operating procedure.

It'll never match what Guiliani did. he made the homeless disappear. poof. where did they all go?

6. They did this in San Diego in 96.
The area around the convention center was an area frequented by thousands of homeless people. During the repug convention police were told to "remove" anyone who remotly resembles a homeless person.
People were picked up and "relocated" out to remote areas of east county.
They tried to hide the problem of homelessness. They make homelessness a crime. And they fail to acknowledge that their fucking hero, Ronald Reagan, created this "problem".
These people are shameful!

12. On a larger scale
the same was done in Atlanta during the Olympics.
Homelessness in America is shameful, but only admitted when the camera's rolling.
...O...

10. If they want to get the homeless off the streets around MSG
Then the repugs should rent out a few hotels to put them up in.

It would be a win, win for both sides.

The repugs would have their Disney World version of NYC and the homeless folks could get a few nights in a nice bed, meals and hot showers. Bu$h certainly has enough money in his warchest to cover the expenses.

11. So it's important to find places for these folks to live just for
the convention?

We wouldn't want to actually do something to help, now, would we?

These guys are amazing!

BOSTON -- Officials of the Democratic National Convention to be held in Boston this summer are addressing the issue of homeless people.

Officials are drawing up plans to encourage the homeless to stay away from so-called hard security zones around the FleetCenter, where the convention will be held July 26-29. Those zones will be open only to credentialed officials, convention delegates and the news media.
