Third parties on right could be problem for Bush
Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 09:11 AM by JoFerret
Would be nice to have the focus off Nader as spoiler for a change.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040621/lf_nm/campaign_thirdparties_dc&cid=572&ncid=2043

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Moses Murphy was as Republican as they come. The 27-year-old former Marine always voted a straight ticket and his Jeep Cherokee sported three "Bush-Cheney '04" bumper stickers.

But two months ago as the Boardsman, Ohio, resident was surfing the Internet, he came across the Web site for the Constitution Party, a small, conservative group still struggling to be on the ballot in every state.

Off came the Bush paraphernalia and now Murphy's Jeep is plastered with stickers for Michael Peroutka, the Constitution Party's little-known presidential nominee.

Media attention has focused on Ralph Nader (news - web sites) as a potential spoiler to presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry (news - web sites), but President Bush (news - web sites) could face a similar threat from third party candidates on the right.

2. I think there should be a secular right-populist on the ballot.
Buchanan could have been ideal in this regard, but has become soiled by factional fighting. Most fundies will vote for Bush but there is a weakness of Bush with regard to many on the right who supported Perot in '92.

I bet everybody's rightwing friends would like to learn about how the Constitution Party is working "to restore our government to its Constitutional limits and our law to its Biblical foundation"!

4. Oh Please , Oh Please
Let them be strong here in NW Florida. The Vice-Presidential candidate is the head of a large church here. I hope everyone who attends there votes for him. We need to siphon off all the R votes we can. /sarcasm on I am enclosing a link so you can see what an upstanding man is running for vice president. /sarcasm off

People, you really need to click on this site to get a good look at extremism.

However, having said that I googled him and found an address he made and actually agreed with part of what he said.

"As we all now know, in spite of Dole losing the election, America survived Clinton's second term, all the fear mongering notwithstanding. In fact, in many ways, the country fared better under the Clinton's second term than it is faring under the current administration.

When Clinton left office we had large budget surpluses, an unconstitutional, Gestapo-like Patriot Act had not been passed into law, we had not experienced the massive terrorist attack of September 11, 2001, our troops were not languishing in another no-win, meaningless war half way around the world, gas prices were not climbing to over two dollars a gallon, and millions of illegal aliens had not been promised amnesty."

I do not think they can get Moore on the ballot now, but I think they should announce that if elected they would appoint him to the supreme court. That should draw a lot more votes.

Like I said, we need all the help we can get here in NW Florida.

5. I've met Peroutka.
One of his kids takes tae kwon do with my daughter.

The guy is very slimey & full of himself. Talks too loud & has no consideration of the instructor or others.

He has a stepford wife & the kids seem nice enough, although any independence seems to have been totally crushed out of them.

8. It's not a *similar* threat if the guy is little know. Frankly this is a
chance for Democrats to play like the Republicans do. Though, he needs media attention, which may be more difficult?

i.e. FUNDRAISING FOR THIS GUY, GETTING HIM ON THE BALLOTS IN SWING STATES, AND RUNNING ADS!

11. Much less of a problem thanks to Nader
For every vote these parties take from Bush, Nader will take a vote from Kerry.
