Japanese schoolboy writes apology in blood
Tokyo - A Japanese teenager was forced by his teacher to write an apology in blood after dozing in the classroom, the school's principal said on Monday.

The teacher later went to high school principal Hiroaki Dan and confessed what he had done, Dan said.

The teacher had apologised to the 17-year-old boy and his parents, Dan said, confirming a local media report of the incident, which happened last Thursday.

6. Thanks
Teachers have been cracking under the stress of teaching in Japan these days and it looks like this one needs to look into finding a new line of work.

Lots of interesting stories can be found at japantoday.com.

As freakish as this story is, it is not unrepresentative of the kind of weirdness that goes down in Japan.

4. thats so hardcore!
thats why I love Japanese people, they can be sooo intense. They're also really polite as well. A friend of mine went to Tokyo and said when ever he asked for directions the person would stop what they're doing lead them to the area they needed to go and often buy them a drink.

5. You love this?!
There's a subtle but distinctive difference between being "hardcore" and being "fucking whacko."

I like it too...the good parts that come out of it, like Japanese street fashion, and probably half of my top ten favorite movies ever are anime (My Neighbor Totoro, Castle of Cagliostro).

Light case in point- When Tom Green went there and filmed himself doing his antics, they either completely ignored him or tried to tear his face off. No happy medium. But that's editing for you.

Dark case in point- All the suicides. There was an article in I think Mother Jones a few months ago with the pictures and translations of suicide notes written by Japanese scoolchildren in the age range of 8-11. They say they do it because of the overwhelming pressure to do well in school. :(
