Impeachment manager Barr set to publish rebuttal to Clinton's book
WASHINGTON - Bob Barr, the first congressman to call for President Clinton's impeachment, plans to publish a book next month detailing his own version of the events.

The Georgia Republican and House impeachment manager made the announcement Monday, one day before Clinton's autobiography was set to hit the shelves. Barr's book, being released in mid-July from Stroud & Hall, is entitled, "The Meaning of Is: The Squandered Impeachment and Wasted Legacy of William Jefferson Clinton."

In the book, Barr presents a rebuttal to Clinton's position that his impeachment was a "badge of honor." He calls it a "disgrace of historic importance."

"I am most amazed that the Monica Lewinsky case is ultimately the one that got the president impeached," Barr says in an excerpt from his book released to the media. "These charges pale in comparison to the systematic damage Bill Clinton did to American national security, the office of the presidency and the civil liberties of individual American citizens."

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr alleges a conspiracy of his own, but far different from the one Hillary Clinton said was targeting her husband during the Lewinsky scandal. Rather, Barr says top Senate Republican leaders worked out a deal to assure Clinton would stay in office despite his impeachment, figuring he was "too wily a politician" to completely fall.

19. now that he can't get back into Congress, he's got to have a real job...
...and trashing Bill Clinton is the only thing he knows. barr is a number one, class A HYPOCRITE. I'd like to see his seamy little life under the microscope.

And the funniest thing about all the trashers and thrashers of the Clinton's is that just about EVERYTHING they try to through out gets refuted through reputable sources. One wonders what their REAL motivations are.

6. Hiya, Bobby!

http://www.treefort.org/~rgrogan/affairs.htm#barr

The first hypocrite exposed by Larry Flynt is Bob Barr. Barr and his current wife, Jeri, were in an adulterous relationship prior to his divorce in 1986. Neither Barr nor his current wife, Jeri, denied an affair when asked about it repeatedly during the divorce proceedings. In fact they were married one month after the divorce was final. Barr is refusing to discuss his personal life with the news media. But he has repeatedly had a lot to say on Clinton's personal life.
Also, Barr's former wife, Gail, said Barr paid for an abortion she had in 1983 and that he never objected to it. However, Barr said under oath in his 1986 divorce testimony that he did object to the abortion. Barr issued a statement saying "I have never perjured myself...I have never suggested, urged, forced or encouraged anyone to have an abortion."
PLEASE NOTE: Barr claims to support "Family Values" and is a strong anti-abortion advocate.

35.  AP story: Barr claims the GOP Senate leadership ended the impeachment
The claim is that Clinton could have been impeached, and the only reason that the impeachment failed is that the GOP Senate leadership decided not to impeach Clinton. Another excellent example of how the GOP can take anything that hurts the GOP and turn it into an anti-Dem talking point that almost makes sense. So expect to hear this boiling out of a freeper near you soon.

http://www.mlive.com/newsflash/michigan/index.ssf?/newsflash/get_story.ssf?/cgi-free/getstory_ssf.cgi?a0730_BC_Kerry-Debate&&news&election2004

(snip)

A former Republican congressman who first called for President Clinton's impeachment plans to publish a book countering the president's memoir. The title: "The Meaning of Is: The Squandered Impeachment and Wasted Legacy of William Jefferson Clinton."

(snip)

In an interview with The Associated Press, Barr argued that top Senate Republican leaders worked out a deal to assure Clinton would stay in office despite his impeachment, figuring he was "too wily a politician" to completely fall.

"It failed in the Senate largely because the Republican leadership did not want it to succeed," said Barr, who was defeated by fellow U.S. Rep. John Linder in the 2002 Republican primary. "They had worked out a working relationship with Bill Clinton, and I think they had reached the conclusion that better a weakened Bill Clinton than a possibly stronger Al Gore."

(More, but not much... )

He is a Nazi

The fact of the matter is that they were investigating Whitewater
after almost $100 million of our tax dollars
They could not find anything and completely exonerated Clinton,
so they had to ask a question that was irrelevent to the case
about his sex life and Monica Lewinsky, something he should never
have answered, being irrelevent to the case,
All they think about is sex

Edited on Mon Jun-21-04 08:06 PM by Democat
Clinton supported civil liberties, Bush attacks and undermines them.

Republicans are known for saying exactly the opposite of the truth, and the media helps them get away with it.

Look how the media treats Clinton and how they treat Reagan. Exact opposite because one is a Democrat and one is a Republican. Reagan's scandals were far more serious, but the U.S. media always favors the right.

36. Hey, Barr...how many Freepers do you expect to buy your "book"?...
...I bet even they know you're full of crap.

The Patriot Act I & II have done FAR more damage to civil liberties than anything accomplished by the GOP-controlled Congress from 1996-2000. Do a google search and see what you find in terms of damage to the Constitution.

As far as any "systematic damage" done to the office of the presidency by Clinton, Barr really needs to blame the stripping of the powers associated with the Executive Branch with the work done by the House Managers and Ken Starr to eliminate "executive privilege".

National security damaged by Clinton? Right. Who was in charge when 911 took place, arguably the worst national security breakdown we've ever experienced on the American mainland?

If any of the Senate GOPers backed off, it was because Larry Flynt quietly let them know that he had the videos and 8 x 10 glossies.

He's mad because Clinton's book is being talked about all over, and Clinton was on "60 Minutes," and that Clinton has SO much more of interest to say than he EVER will. How's that nice glass house you live in, barr? Still throwing stones at other people out the front window? He's also very likely jealous that he'll never amount to one 1000th of what Clinton will. All he'll ever be known for is being an angry, sniping attack dog. Nothing affirming, positive, pleasant, or productive about him. He'll always be one of the ugly stepsisters. Nothing more.

I'd bet he's also jealous that Clinton had so much more of an allure with women than he ever will. Probably some smart, handsome, upward-bound honor student embarrassed him on the playground in front of some girl when he was younger, and nobody ever got "punished" sufficiently for his liking. That's okay. Plenty of room downstairs for him in the hereafter, and he'll have LOTS of familiar faces for company.
