Movie, Music Stars to Raise Millions for Kerry
Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond will sing together for the first time in 24 years on Thursday, bringing not flowers but millions of dollars for Democrat John Kerry's U.S. presidential campaign.
<snip>

The Los Angeles concert on Thursday, and a concert in New York on July 8 featuring Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Bon Jovi, the Dave Matthews Band and Mary J. Blige, are expected to raise about $10 million for Kerry's coffers. Ticket prices range from $250 to $25,000 a seat.
<snip>

"It is ambitious, but it was surprisingly easy to arrange. I've never quite seen before how ready everyone was to show up and work. It is a diverse array of people," said Rolling Stone magazine editor Jann Wenner, who is executive producer of both the Los Angeles and New York shows.
<snip>

"There's nobody I can recall calling up for the concerts who has said. 'No, I don't believe in that. I don't want to do it,"' he said.

2. Cool. DMB and Mary Blige will be there
Good to see they're supporting Kerry. I'm always interested in knowing what music/movie people's political views are. I know Hollywood is real liberal but sometimes you get those freepers.

3. They can make even more...
...if they record it. Then they can put the DVDs on sale at a reasonable price for those of us proles who cannot afford to pay $250+ for live seats.

I'm sure someone has already thought of this, but just in case -- I hope they're reading DU!

6. Wonder what the line up for a bush* fundraising concert would be? Other
that Brittany and Toby Keith, who would show up? (No one anyone with taste would want to see, no doubt.)

8. And they had to reschedule this thing, too
after the Reagan hagiography began. It's great that people were flexible enough to change so quickly to help Kerry.

I gotta say, as much as Barbara has been riding her own coattails in the entertainment industry since at least 1974--some might say 1967--she is a real, died-in-the-wool Democrat. And how great is it to have Mary J. there too!
