A Crowning at the Capital Creates a Stir (Thursday NYT Update On Fallout)
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 02:43 AM by khephra

As a shining symbol of democracy, the United States capital is not ordinarily a place where coronations occur. So news that the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the eccentric and exceedingly wealthy Korean-born businessman, donned a crown in a Senate office building and declared himself the Messiah while members of Congress watched is causing a bit of a stir.

One congressman, Representative Danny K. Davis, Democrat of Illinois, wore white gloves and carried a pillow holding one of two ornate gold crowns that were placed on the heads of Mr. Moon and his wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, at the ceremony, which took place March 23 and capped a reception billed as a peace awards banquet.

Mr. Davis says he held the wife's crown and was "a bit surprised'' by Mr. Moon's Messiah remarks, which were delivered in Korean but accompanied by a written translation. In them, he said emperors, kings and presidents had "declared to all heaven and earth that Reverend Sun Myung Moon is none other than humanity's Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent.''

By Wednesday, after news of the event had been reported in the online magazine Salon and various newspapers, Capitol Hill was in full-blown backpedaling mode, as lawmakers who attended but missed the coronation - or saw it and did not think much of it - struggled to explain themselves.

Ha ha ha! This is their new Messiah! This is truly a gift from Hades. Now I can fuck with every fundie I meet! I'm gonna make a poster with this photo and plaster it everywhere, especially near churches with the caption below:

"The Messiah has cometh again! Bow down to the Moon!"

5. Like this is news - we lost Congress to freedom fries!
Or maybe even before that. I believe Congress became a body of total self-interest when Reagan let lobbyist rape and pillage anything and everything congressional back in the 80s.

Today we are looking at the shadow of a once great institution.

16. Watch CNN, they're showing the video, including the

coronation and the part where Moon proclaims himself the Messiah. To be fair, he proclaimed himself the Messiah in Korean, which is probably not spoken by any of the Congressmen who attended. The guy who carried one of the crowns in the ceremony (an Illinois congressman, I believe, name is Davis) said he understood it to be a ceremony for peace. Moon snookered those guys.

7. I spoke with Sen Snowe's Regional Rep...
On Tuesday, before this broke in the mainstream press.

She knew nothing about it and asked that I send her the info. I emailed her a copy of "The Hill" article. Granted, it was only Tuesday but I haven't received a hint of a response.

I'm very curious as to what Olympia will have to say about this. I gather they're putting together the GOP Senatorial response right now.

Thank you, DUers, for keeping this alive when no mainstream media was going near this issue.

8. Is this a joke or what??
""Reverend Moon has been very intentional about promoting his activities within the African-American church community,'' Mr. Lynn said. But he said he was disturbed by lawmakers' "flimsy excuses,'' adding, "You had what effectively amounted to a religious coronation in a government building of a man who claims literally to be the savior.'"

24. Unfortunately, for all of us, there is nothing to joke about when it comes
to anything about the good Reverend Moon. Be afraid, be very afraid. He is CIA and then some. He puts BinLaden to shame and possibly to bed every night.

10. This is a beautiful thing
Not the coronation, but the migration of this from lesser known outlets to the NYT. I first heard about it from Randi last week. This is quite a victory for alternative news sources.

11. And all it took was three short months to become a news item and subject
to debate. Hmmmm, I just don't know what to say. We've been screaming about Moon for a couple of years now, but we are always labeled to be "conspiracy nuts", "wacko's", most of all I like Gore Vidal's new title for all the coincidences.
"Cowinky-dinks", that's all move along now. It is just another one of those silly little "cowinky-dinks".

Tin Foil? Oh, so not necessary, just another one of those "cowinky-dinks"! What a fun little word. "Cowinky-dink"!

13. It shows that it can happen, though
This story has been around here for what feels like forever. I thought it was too flakey to EVER get into the mainstream press, but here it is.

Just goes to show that we should never give up. No matter how bizarre or unbelievable a story is, if we keep telling people about it, and if it's true, the time may eventually be right for the lazy mainstream press to pick it up and run it.

14. Can we keep on telling people about the "unholy alliance", will anyone
ever believe it? Maybe now, yes......

http://www.rense.com/general20/unholy.htm

"Tin Foil bodyware secure" (my quote).

The Bilderbergs.
The Trilateral Commission.
The Council of Foreign Relations.
The Central Intelligence Agency.

Most everyone has heard of these groups and some of the conspiracy theories surrounding them regarding the development of the 'New World Order.'

Now imagine for a moment there is something to this (and there appears to be no lack of documented material justifying these theories). That would mean that at almost every elevated level of business and government, world wide, men and women have infiltrated, become the controlling administrators and are working to effectively control every aspect of the life of the "world citizen."

One aspect of this that has not been properly searched out is the "religious" connection. Surely, given that much of the world is religious, and in the currently reigning SuperPower nation of the U.S., predominantly "Christian," then it would only make sense that these organizations have infiltrated the Church itself and are also actively leading it to into the New World Order as well.

Do the worlds leading Christian evangelicals have ties to these organizations?

Yes they do, and it is thoroughly documented.

Rev. Sun Myung Moon (The Moonies), and
the Unification Church

For those few of you who are not familiar with the Rev. Moon, in the 60s both he and his Unification Church were universally regarded as a dangerous cult. The abuse his followers suffered at the hands of their mind manipulating master is indeed very well established.

His claims include stating that Christ failed His mission, and that Moon himself is the "new messiah" who is come to fulfill the mission of God. He also claims that it is his mission to 'unite the world through uniting religious forces'. But would it shock you to know that nearly all the big name Christian evangelicals have extremely strong ties to him?

Are you ready for the rest? Probably not. But go ahead, just for fun. And you just thought we had problems with the Mid-East.

18. You got it

Unfortunately, most people will believe this means nothing....blah, blah, blah. He spoke in Korean, we thought it was for his paper.....etc., Most striking is Moon's attempts to get churches to trade in their crosses for crowns... the Truth Seeker has an excellent article on this as well.

12. Another story that happened
before that is just now getting coverage. Of course, I noted the prominent naming of the Democrat who attended this circus and no mention of the rethugs in the first part of the article. Dayton really ought to have known better, why take part in anything associated with these freaks.

17. These meetings have been attended by lawmakers for years.
I was always surprised that no one seemed to care at all. Moon has said he is the "Savior, Messiah, Returning Lord and True Parent" for many years now--this is nothing new. Of course Bush's first act as president was going to a Moonie "prayer breakfast." The Bush's always have loved the Moons. But many progressive, especially African-American Democrats, have also had Moon connections. I'm not terribly troubled, to be honest. I don't mind if a lawmaker goes to a stray Moon or LaRouche event so long as they are not beholden to their agenda.

" I don't mind if a lawmaker goes to a stray Moon or LaRouche event so long as they are not beholden to their agenda."
Why else do they attend but for the fact that Moon contributes to their campaign. Way too cozy for me...

Where once strode Daniel Webster and the incorruptible Sumner now minces Reverend Moon in purple robes suitable for any Caesar and fawned upon by the people's elected representatives....

April, 2001, Granny D is arrested along with several others for being in the Rotunda and reciting the Constitution? Help me out here? Anyone remember, it is not on her site anymore?

Yes, I think it was. The BeeJees or something like that.

I don't think this broken heart gets to be mended for many many more years. This country is going to be invaded and taken over. We the Americans, we are a "rouge nation". I think it will probably be China and Russia. See Skolnick and Ruppert.

"You had what effectively amounted to a religious coronation in a government building of a man who claims literally to be the savior.''

I thought for a moment the writer was referring to the 2001 inauguration of our current leader.

26. So Davis carried a pillow with 2 gold crowns, and he claims
to have been a "bit surprised" by Moon's remarks?? WTF????

Sorry, Davis....wrong answer!!! Davis is a liar. He knew what was going on. Anyone who has enough brains to function marginally as a member of Congress should be asking themselves why they are walking around with f*cking crowns on a pillow in the US Senate. sheesh!!

Davis should be thrown out on his ear, either because he's a traitor to democracy or (more likely) because he's too stupid to be walking around without a keeper. He is a disgrace to America!!

I keep missing that part in the mainstream media. Moon has been an honored guest of the Bush family many, many times. Poppy is tight with that guy... They're playing it off like it's the Senators only who are mixed up with him. What about WT and UPI? Any word on what their real purpose is?? To further George Bush and his family?????

You know, when David Koresh did this kind of thing, thugs from the ATF were dispatched to burn him alive, along with all his followers and their children.
