Radio stations drop Savage? Savage prank caller getting hate mail
Edited on Thu Jul-10-03 09:55 AM by RememberJohn
After getting fired from his MSNBC television show earlier this week for an anti-gay tirade, for which he subsequently apologized, the Talk Radio Network syndicated host was taken off the air at Entercom News/Talker WRKO/Boston and Salem Talk outlets KRLA/Los Angeles and WWTC/Minneapolis. WRKO OM/PD Mike Elder tells R&R that he discussed his concerns about the incident with TRN CEO Mark Masters and that Savage was to return to WRKO last night...

Bob Foster, the caller who precipitated Michael Savage's now infamous "get AIDS and die" rant that got him fired at MSNBC last weekend, tells the San Francisco Chronicle that he's already "getting a lot of hate mail from the Savage nation." Foster is said to be a regular prankster on radio and TV talk shows, with his goal being to plug his favorite radio program, Westwood One's Don and Mike Show.

1. WRKO is conservative - but tends to be honest - Savage doesn't
WRKO is making a very bad decision. There is no need to go beyond the hate level of Limbaugh to get the niche market of right wing nuts in Boston.

2. Theirs is not a business decision - none are in the media
(when it comes to politics). Or else, Randi Rhodes would be broadcasted in more markets, the Spin Room would be on, the Crossfire would be 1h in the good time slot, Donahue would be still on, etc. The "conservative market" is a myth just as Faux's success: the only way Faux is increasing audiences is by buying new affiliates. WRKO is a good soldier. Boston, like NYC has to be brought in line. (We lost here our last non-hate talk station last year, and WABC fored the what passed for a liberal last host (a Nader ditz) about the same time. Now it's 100%Nazi - the next thing you'll hear will be how "NYC's market demanded it"

3. Yeah, we got Howie Carr and Jay Severin ...
They're stupid enough without adding Weiner into the mix.

4. What a shame
What a shame radio has been in the gutter for so long. I still remember WRKO from their great days with Shadoe Stevens and Dale Dorman. Look at how Amerika has devolved since then.
