Ralph Nader tells Canadians not to vote Tory
TORONTO - Another American has asked Canadians not to support the Conservatives on June 28, saying a right-wing government would undermine the country's health-care system.
In an open letter, Ralph Nader, who is running as an independent candidate in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, asks Canadians to close their eyes to the sponsorship scandal and vote for any party but the Tories.
If Canadians don't heed his advice, Nader warns the Canadian economy will be dictated to by foreign ownership and large corporations and the country will turn to a "pay-or-die model" of health care.

8. I'm thinkin
maybe we can send Ralph to Canada. He can screw up elections elsewhere. I'm not sure what their requirements are for running for office, but I don't think you have to be a natural born citizen. Outsourcing Ralph would be great.

Either way, it's awfully amusing that he's telling everybody else what to do, yet when someone else asks him politely (as many liberals have done, sometimes to the point of pleading) to drop out he claims he's being bullied by the democrats.

Kerry's logo is the "Real Deal". Ralph's can be "The real ass hole", because that's really what he is -- without even the slightest consciense.

10. Trade you our Ralph for your Ralph
Ralph Klein (conservative premier of Alberta) for Ralph Nader. It would be win-win for everybody.

You could set up Klein as corrupt sheriff of some little town in the south, which would be suitable to his disposition. Ralph Nader could join the NDP, where he would probably be appreciated.

being a canuck I can't comment on Nader's involvement in the Presidential race

But in terms of our election I am more than happy to see his voice added to others trying to out the wolf in sheep's clothing known as the Conservatives. I just can't believe that Canadians would vote for a party that has never held a policy conference, and whose policies and players are known are very, very, right of center. dangerous times.

18. 905, it's the key
Well, they are a selfish bunch in the 905 area, but if they would wake-up and realize that they are cutting their own throats backing Harper. He will kill the planned Auto investment and plunge that area and the Province into an economic mess. It's the jobs, and Stephen doesn't get it......I hope the 905ers do! There is a large number of angry men in that area, and Harper's been pandering to their crankiness. You know the type “Get off my lawn, quit making noise, I want an aircraft carrier, me, me, me!
Imagine, we could wake up on the 29th, and all of us could be under the thumb of Harper and his gang of angry, middle-aged, white guys.

26. Remember, all of Ontario has gone Liberal for the last 3 federal...
elections. And 905 went overwhelmingly Liberal in the last provincial election too. (Though the recent provincial budget has done nothing to help the federal libs)

That said, I've seen alot more Conservative lawn signs in my riding this year than in any other election year. I'm in Oakville, so this riding has no chance of going NDP, but hopefully it will at least remain Liberal.

And us 905'ers are not all selfish, cranky or wanting an aircraft carrier. :hi:

I hope that you know that I was kidding...sort of. I'm in Peterborough now, and the Cons (or CRAP) should be shut out. Going by signs, not too many of the Cons signs here. I think that we'll stay Liberal. Must practice relaxing this weekend, deep breaths, find that happy place. A place without Right wingers and Neocons.

28. It'll be okay, really.
The Conservatives will not be able to govern, even if they win the most seats. They have no partner for a minority government with an appetite to further their radical agenda.

Very optimistic about Monday.

21. Toronto Star: "Layton gets Ralph Nader's endorsement"
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 10:41 AM by Minstrel Boy
Okay, I'm unsure how I feel about this. Not so much the reminder of Nader as a spoiler - he didn't poll 3% in 2000, while currently, "third parties" in Canada account for nearly 40% of the popular vote. I just don't think a political endorsement is appropriate for high profile foreign nationals, whatever the country.

TIMMINS, Ont. (CP) — Jack Layton's campaign got an unusual endorsement from a United States presidential candidate today, but it's a boost that comes with parallels that might not help the NDP leader.

Ralph Nader, a consumer advocate and left-leaning independent candidate, issued an open letter Friday urging Canadians to avoid a Conservative government.

"Voters beware," he wrote. "You are, in part, understandably reacting to the recent scandal touching the incumbent party. Do not overreact.
You have a third major choice — the NDP — or other parties."

...

"We have by all indications at least a million more Canadians turning to the NDP," Layton said. "Paul Martin can't say that, Stephen Harper can't say that."

he is right, CRAP is dangerous to Canada (CRAP=Conservative/Reform/Alliance Party). Their policies are extremely right wing relative to Canada.

27. I wish the media would stop calling the Conservatives Tories.
Harper's bunch is being given instant credibility, because people remember and associate the term Tory with the old Progressive Conservatives, who actually were a national alternative to the Liberals. Joe Clark was a Tory, John Diefenbaker was a Tory.

Stephen Harper is not a Tory, the new Conservatives are not the PC. The new Conservatives are recycles from the Reform and Alliance parties.

29. I agree 100%
they are not Tories, I correct people constantly on that misnomer.

they are the NEW Conservatives, the Republican Party of Canada and the Alliance & Reform.

if they are a new Party why call them by an old, stolen name?

if they are going to use an old name, why not Alliance of Reform?

grumble grumble

The Harper campaign is like Weekend at Bernies, waving the arm of the recently deceased Tories and hoping no one will notice the party's colour is blue, because it's dead.

Except he called them Tories, and Tories they ain't.

Conservative best hope is a minority victory and Jack Layton won't play ball with the Conservatives no matter what prizes they toss his way.
