Bush, Kerry Offer Ideas on Technology
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—President Bush and Democratic rival John Kerry offered ideas Thursday to push the United States to the cutting edge on technology, with the hope of securing crucial political support in Silicon Valley and other high-tech regions.

Kerry, noting that the Internet was started with help from research in his home state of Massachusetts, said the United States needs a president who understands the needs of the high-tech industry.

"It's not a bubble; it is a breakthrough that will continue to lift our economy and our lives,'' the senator told an audience in the heart of Silicon Valley.

The Democratic challenger complained that the United States is losing its technological edge because of ``neglect and hostility'' under Bush's leadership, with the disappearance of 800,000 high-tech jobs and the nation's drop from 4th to 10th in the percentage of people using broadband. He said countries such as South Korea and Japan are now deploying networks that are 20-50 times faster than what is available in the United States.

1. Broadband?
We should push high speed internet? Why so people can find the Baseball Box scores quicker? We worship people who have great athletic prowess but may not be able to balance a checkbook. While we heap scorn upon those seek enlightenment. Why am I not surprised we are raising generations of morons.

4. How old are you?
I don't know about you but for me as a college student high speed internet is essential. For research, job searching, and communication high speed connections mean a big deal to our economy and education system.

If someone wants to see baseball scores quicker or download porn faster that is no excuse for holding this nation back into fully exploring the benefits of the internet.

5. high speed INTERNET is essential
I suspect it is a 'Nice to Have' but essential?

however my main point is not to argue if the Net is 'Necessary' but that it is not sufficient. {That is sufficient in and of itself to solve the education woes of the USA.} Without the desire/ will to succeed the rest is meaningless.

As for connection speeds. We moved allot of data over 300baud lines in the 70's and early 80's. A large amount of the bandwidth currently in use carries fluff. This conversation would still carry it's meaning formated in ASCII Text, and consume less bandwidth.

3. The Big differenence here is Bush is a Liar and never delivers
on his promises..just like the war in Iraq..

The Lie the War was necessary...and the promise of gratitude from Iraqis.
