The UN bodies said they would pay tribute on the special day to all governments, organizations and individuals engaged in activities aimed at preventing torture, punishing it and ensuring that all victims obtain redress and have an enforceable right to fair and adequate compensation, including the means for as full a rehabilitation as possible.

In the statement, they also expressed their gratitude to all donors to the UN Voluntary Fund for Victims of Torture and hoped that contributions to the Fund would continue to increase, so thatmore victims of torture and members of their families could receive the assistance.
