Internet Is Extremists' Channel of Choice
<snip>

NEW YORK - Al-Qaida-linked terror groups and their sympathizers have in recent months made a big splash on the Internet (news - web sites), making it their communications channel of choice.

They're benefiting from free discussion boards, e-mail accounts and other online forums for propaganda, recruitment, fund-raising and even planning.

</snip>

Are they talking about you and me? Are they talking about antiwar activists? Are they talking about environmental activists? Are they talking about antiglobalization activists? Are they...

What makes one a sympathizer? Is being against the war in Iraq being a sympathizer to Al Qaida, since the US government and corporate media have repeatedly asserted the connection between the resistance to occupation in Iraq and al Qaida terrorism while at the same time announcing no proof of such a link? Does that make one a terrorist? What are the constitutional rights of such an American citizen?

Have you ever read the constitution of the United States of America?

1. I wouldn't get too worked up. Most of the people they're talking about
are probably posting in Arabic. English isn't the only language on the net, you know.

3. I knew that...
I'm just worried about what categorizes one as a sympathizer, aren't you? And I think I have every reason to be worked up, but thanks for the advice on how to look like a dismissible typical antiwar member of society, I'll write that down.

9. I was responding to the questions in your post, in the context
of the article as it is written. You asked, "Do they mean us?" And, no, I do not think that the article refers to "us", it seems clear to me that it was referring to Islamist extremists.

I do not dismiss the danger that various antiwar, anti-corporate, and environmental groups may be in -- especially due to the (un)Patriot Act -- but imho, the focus of the article you posted was on foreign internet useage, and not domestic.

5. I think it's a ref to the "to serve man" episode...

The aliens show the humans a book called "To Serve Man", everyone assumes it's about helping humanity etc. until they are on the ship, when some interpreter figures out it is really a cook book. The point being, they want to control the "evil" internet so it suits their purposes...

6. I've seen that...
And believe it. The internet MUST be controlled at all costs as far as these imperialists are concerned, and it's only a matter of time really.

But I believe it is too late already, the connections have been made. Antiwar activists are ready, sick to start the movement. And the workers are waiting, right now! They are at work now, serving expensive steak to fat Americans right now, ready to take their country back. Ready to assert their rights as recognized under the constitution of the United States.

This land is our land. I'm ready, are you? Dennis Kucinich for something.
