Edwards keeps rank and file on their feet
Edwards keeps rank and file on their feet

Crowds cheer him for No. 2 spot, while Kerry ponders maps, numbers

MARK JOHNSON

Staff Writer

DES MOINES, Iowa - If John Kerry picks John Edwards as his vice presidential running mate, it will be because of places like southwest Iowa's Union County, home to farmers and a Gummi Bear factory.

The senator from North Carolina won the county by a wide margin in Iowa's presidential caucus in January, and voters haven't lost their enthusiasm for him.

At last weekend's Iowa Democratic Party convention in Des Moines, Monica McCarthy, a quality engineer from Union, sported a "Draft Kerry Edwards" sticker and dubbed the pair "the dream team."

The guessing game over Kerry's choice has torqued up to high gear as the convention in Boston grows closer and prominent Democrats offer their unsolicited, and public, advice. Edwards' ability to invigorate crowds at Democratic events in recent weeks helps accelerate the buzz that he's the preferred candidate of the rank and file.

1. Thanks for posting such a nice story.
I blew off a bit of steam last night in GD04. I hadn't been online, and came on and read a series of slams against Edwards, and I just posted a "Dammit, stop!" thread.

It's nice to return to more sunny news about JRE. Good way to start the day!

:hi:

2. I'm beginning to believe that this is the best ticket
Edwards has charm and enthusiasm that will bring a great boast to the Kerry campaign.

3. Thank you for such a nice reply... I think he will be the best

This nation need two men with skills to articulate the messages we need to keep this nation a great nation.

Edwards is intelligent, able to pull him self up by the boot straps, and with all the capable people we have like Clinton, Gore , Gep. Dean and the list goes one, if something would happen to Kerry, Edwards is capable of running the country especially with the above as helpers....

In the mean time Edwards will be learning all the inside stuff from the well experienced Senator Kerry... I truly think Kerry, is the best choice we could have made considering the times.

5. Edwards is my pick, too!
I'm a Dean Democrat... but always liked Edwards. I think that he would INVIGORATE the ticket! I think that the Kerry strategists can overthink this thing to death.. Go with the MOJO! Edwards and Kerry would be a great team. The young vote is so crucial, and Edwards has the vibe that would attract them. Unless someone drafts Justin Timberlake to run with Kerry, then Edwards would be a great choice!

6. Whenever I hear Edwards, I get inspired! I have to believe this
effect happens to more people than just me.

That inspiration comes from what he says, the policies he talks about, what we as America can do that's positive and real and his obvious sincerity.

That inspiration should bring along many, many people.

7. Edwards has perfected the art of the smackdown, too
When Edwards was still suing people who needed it, he managed to put a country doctor out of business because of some rather serious malpractice--basically, this fine country gentleman fucked someone up in ways that can't be fixed. (I don't have the details of the case, so that brief synopsis will have to do.)

Come the senatorial race, and Edwards was kicking ass. His opponent Lauch Faircloth's campaign called the Edwards campaign and told him they were gonna run an attack ad starring the friendly country doctor Edwards put out of business. Edwards said fine, no problem, be my guest, but you may want to know that we're prepared to run a rebuttal ad starring the person whose life this doctor ruined. Faircloth's ad was never shown.

Edwards will screw Bush and Cheney to the fucking wall.

8. At one time I thought the ticket would be a Dean?Edwards
but I am happy with Kerry, he is probably what we need at this time with the experience. Edwards and Kerry will work well togeather, I saw something between them at the very first, sort of like father and son. Kerry will be a very good influence on Edwards who most probably be around for a long time

I think it is going to take all the people that was in the primary, Edwards and Clark to bring home the south, Gep to bring in his state and area, plus all the help he can give them with legislation..And Dr. Dean is a must to keep the grassroots going. We also need Carol, and Sharpton, I could listen to him talk every day, and don't forget the kind hearted Dennis.

9. Excellent point, surfermaw. We need all hands on deck.
Edwards as VP will excite and inspire voters. Clark should be put in charge of fixing Iraq with a "Clark Plan" (or I wouldn't mind seeing him in charge of Homeland Security. Dean can oversee the implementation of our national health care plan. Gep - Labor. And Kerry, the big guy overseeing it all.

10. Go Edwards!
The smile, the accent, the utter charm....
Not that Edwards isn't smart, but Kerry doesn't need intelligence. Kerry doesn't need foreign experience credentials (something Edwards lacks). Kerry doesn't need gravitas (whatever the flip that is).

Kerry's ticket needs charisma, and Edwards just oozes the quality.

Of course, I'm biased. I voted for Edwards in the primary (1 week after Super Tuesday).

And all you Kucinich supporters, Edwards was very friendly with Kucinich when it seemed like others may have discounted the Congressman as a candidate.

12. Edwards and Kooch were pals - both said so publicly.
And they traded votes in Iowa (to maximize each one's delegates).

Edwards appeals to Kooch - and to Indies and Repugs. Now THAT's what you want on your ticket!

13. The Way I Knew
Edwards and Kucinich were friends was watching them at the debates.
It seemed like Edwards would always go right for Kucinich (with little more than the obligatory, polite handshake of other candidates) and put his arm around him, a very warm greeting.

It surprised me, because I never thought of them as particularly compatible.

I'm not sure if he'll vote for any other ticket - but he likes J. Edwards.
