POSTED: 2:59 pm PDT June 29, 2004
UPDATED: 3:37 pm PDT June 29, 2004

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A Sacramento billboard drew a lot of attention Tuesday after it was altered to show a quote from President George W. Bush that was included in the controversial new Michael Moore movie.

The billboard near Land Park Drive and Broadway, which was originally for Baskin Robbins, was changed to show a quote from President George W. Bush.

The quote -- "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it" -- was included in the film "Fahrenheit 9-11."

5. There are three different quotes of
bush where he mentions something about his liking a dictatorship in the US. I hope this comes back and bites him.

13. actually it's four!
"It's not a dictatorship in Washington, but I tried to make it one in that instance. We are beginning to see some success in opening up federal coffers for faith-based programs."
--George W. Bush (quotation from "Bush Courts Black Voters", Washington Post Friday, January 16, 2004; Page A09)

"You don't get everything you want. A dictatorship would be a lot easier."
-- George W. Bush (Governing Magazine 7/98) (From Paul Begala's "Is Our Children Learning?" Describing what it's like to be governor of Texas.)

"I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator," Bush joked.
-- George W. Bush (CNN.com, December 18, 2000)

"A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it, "
-- George W. Bush (Business Week, July 30, 2001)

3. Defaced?
That's looks like a professional billboard to me. The average person would "deface" a billboard with paint, don't you think?

In any case, it's pretty funny!

and that artist deserves kudos even though I don't condone the destruction of private property. I would like to meet the artist.

Dictatorships That Pass in the Night
August 17, 2001
by Robert C.

<snip>
As Jonathan Alter notes in his on-line column in the 8/6 issue of Newsweek (on MSNBC - "Fighting the HMO Meanies"): "'...A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier - there's no question about it,' he said again last week, repeating what appears to be his favorite quip." (In the book Fortunate Son, J. H. Hatfield has Dubya, as governor of Texas in 1996, saying this to a business group - "It would be a heck of a lot easier to be a dictator than work in a democracy". This is not a "new" joke for him.)
