Military Moms Hopeful Their Kids Can Come Home Soon

The United States handed over authority to the interim Iraqi government today, 48 hours ahead of its June 30th deadline, but almost 150 thousand soldiers are still in Iraq and will likely remain there for months or years to come. News 3's Maria Silva spoke with a mother's whose son is still in Iraq. The military mom calls today's transfer of power a very good move, and a move that may help bring her son home sooner.

In the past, Pamela Goodwill has been a cheerleader for our troops overseas and especially for her 22 year old son, Adam, going as far as organizing a Support Our Troops rally last year. But today, like many families with loved ones in Iraq, she sat in front of the television set.

And like any other day, she also checked her e-mail hoping to hear news from her son in Iraq. "It's midnight there now, so I figured in a couple of hours hopefully he'll call." A soldier with the Army's First Infantry Division, Adam has been overseas for more than 18 months and in Iraq the last four months.

With the transfer of power in place, Goodwill's only hope now is that her son may be able to come home when expected. "He is suppose to be out by Thanksgiving ... home for good. I know wha't he's going to do. He'll sleep and I'll feed him."

2. I'll bet a lot of kids are hoping their own "Military Moms" make it home..
As well! We have a lot of women serving in Iraq, and if Bush has his way, there will be many more...like when he signs the order for a return of the draft.

3. Confirmation (again) that war is good for the media.
"But today, like many families with loved ones in Iraq, she sat in front of the television set."

Of course they'd sell a war; it's in their interest to do so.

and even more angry since they took our kids to their illegal occupation.

a lot of parents are in denial...wait til they find out their kid is over there for
nothing.
Perhaps people cant even fathom, in their minds, that any group of people like the Bush cabal, could be so heartless and evil and send their sons and daughters to be killed or wounded to a hellhole like Iraq, merely to make their corporate friends wealthy.

6. Mari333 I really lost it last Friday
We've been protesting every Friday from 5 to 6 on the corner downtown for the last 2 years. A "support the troops" counter group has recently started across the street. Last Friday "they" had 7 little boys about 10 years old out in front with their patriot signs. They really have no clue that they'll be sent to the slaughter as soon as they turn 18. We had decided not to engage in conversation with them but I just went insane for a few moments.
