(Greens) LaMarche says she'll vote for whoever can beat Bush
By JOSHUA L. WEINSTEIN, Portland Press Herald Writer

AUGUSTA — Pat LaMarche, the Green Party's newly nominated candidate for vice president, said Tuesday that her top priority is not winning the White House for her party, but ensuring that President Bush is defeated. She is, in fact, so determined to see Bush lose that she would not commit to voting for herself and her running mate, Texas lawyer David Cobb.

LaMarche, who won 7 percent of the vote when she was the Green Independent candidate for governor of Maine in 1998, said she'll vote for whoever has the best chance of beating Bush.

But "if Bush has got 11 percent of the vote in Maine come November 2, I can vote for whoever I want," she said in an interview with the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram. And if the state is, as it is now, a toss-up between Bush and presumptive Democratic candidate Sen. John Kerry? She could well vote for the Democrat.

"I love my country," she said. "Maybe we should ask them that, because if (Vice President) Dick Cheney loved his country, he wouldn't be voting for himself."

3. Bay City, I think this shows how much the larger progressive community
Edited on Wed Jun-30-04 07:36 AM by Prodemsouth
has grown up over the last year. I think we all have our eyes on the prize and that is the defeat of the monkey. Likewise, if a Green candidate presents a good program on the local level, I will consider voting or supporting that person. If you told me I would say such a thing 6 months ago, I would have thought you were crazy. Cobb's effort will yield much good will for the Greens from other progressives and it is a very smart political move for the Green party.
On edit: Notice how the whore media has been dissing the Greens, with this they are so wierd campaign, echoing Ralph Nader. Prehaps if they look at the Major Parties they will also find a few wierdos in their ranks. What about the GOP's religious right? The media and maybe Nader are after the Greens because they are doing something that may hurt their beloved Monkey.

4. The media will try to take down
any candidate who is not beholden to corporate elites. That is why they make sure they do not report on Kucinich's message. They know if they reported what these other candidates stand for, we would probably elect them.

rigged out the wahzoo!! Many votes will once again simply disappear, so everyone needs to vote for Kerry. Otherwise, my vote would be for Kucinich.

6. Yes, A Great American
As a delegate last week to the Green Party National Convention, Pat LaMarche's statement is why I voted to nominate her and David Cobb.

Building the Green Party as an authentic progressive, populist political party is very important to the future of this nation. We are the only ones actually 'walking the walk' when it comes to big special interest money in politics; we're the only ones campaigning for REAL democracy by supporting proportional representation and Instant Runoff Voting.

So, we all need the Green Party because the Democrats just will not lead for expanding freedom and democracy. But we all know that Bush has got to go. Everyone, that is, but Ralph Nader and Peter Camejo.

Now I was not a Green in 2000, so I don't feel any personal need to defend Nader against the 'spoiler' charge ... However, I think the greatest offender in 2000 was Bush, himself. He lied, lied, lied as we now know. His 'compassionate conservative' was a lie to blur the differences between himself and Gore. That, and the unconstitutional actions of the Supreme Court, are the real criminal reasons for Bush getting into office.

Finally, indeed, what a wonderful quotation from Pat LaMarche: ""I love my country," she said. "Maybe we should ask them that, because if (Vice President) Dick Cheney loved his country, he wouldn't be voting for himself.""

Go Greens!

7. This should have been Nader's strategy from the beginning.
Clearly, the Greens have an opportunity to challenge the "centrist" dominance of the Democrats AND to not screw with the chances of removing Bush. His MAIN enemy clearly is "the Democratic Party" and not the ruling class as such. I don't suspect many of his 2000 supporters will be around this time.
