Survey Shows Bush Support Drops Among Muslim Voters (Well, Duh!)
http://www.voanews.com/article.cfm?objectID=02F4E565-C10E-4870-904562458B93A741

Surveys show that four years ago, most Muslim voters in the United States supported President Bush by an overwhelming majority. This year, however, leaders of Islamic groups say most Muslim voters are not likely to vote to reelect the president and are currently looking for an alternative candidate who shares their views.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, says 78 percent of Muslims who voted in the 2000 presidential election voted for George Bush.

<snip>

According to a recent informal survey released by the council of more than 1000 Muslim voters, the level of support for Mr. Bush has changed dramatically in the period since the president took office.

The poll says about half of those surveyed support the presumed Democratic nominee John Kerry, 26 percent would vote for independent candidate Ralph Nader, while only two percent would support President Bush.

3. Muslim Americans tend to be social conservatives
Bush had this voting bloc in his pocket, until he let the Ashcroft faction start running roughshod over their civil rights.

5. He had ALOT of support in FL ue to statements against racial profiling
I seem to remember a DemocracyNow! interview that discussed a specific speech in Florida to Muslim-Americans in which he condemned racial profiling.

This attributes it in part to feelings against Lieberman. http://www.meforum.org/article/13

In a straw poll conducted during a Muslim leadership meeting in Chicago on October 17, 2000, an audience of 200 persons (again, strongly biased toward Islamists) responded with 69 percent for Bush, 12 percent for Gore and 16 percent for a third or fourth party candidate.45 Between October 27 and November 2, IslamOnline.net held an online poll of 446 presumably Islamist respondents and found Bush with 54 percent, Gore with 9 percent, and Nader with 34 percent.

2. One of the reasons I don't beleive Bush has a chance in Michigan
The Arab American community in the Detroit area went overwhelmingly for Bush in 2000 and will go solidly for Kerry this year.

I thought the local coverage of the community's reaction to the Handoverjob was interesting. When the US entered Baghdad, and when Saddam was captured, there were large spontaneous celebrations in the streets in Dearborn. When the news broke of the "end of the occupation", there was a skeptical, one might even say surly, silence.

14. Will they go for Kerry? This article says a lot are leaning toward Nader.
It doesn't matter who they vote for if they don't vote for Bush.

It's ironic to think that the loss of the Muslim vote alone could cost ShrubCo the election, by losing him a few key states he "won" last time, like Florida.

Doh!

15. Taking away their vote won't help Shrub, though -
since they voted for Shrub last time, their loss in any way is a loss to Shrub.

LOL! Shot himself in the foot again. Morans.

6. How anyone could vote for Bush is beyond me.
WHO could he inspire? WHAT group could have confidence in him? Even the rich, who were the big beneficiaries of his massive tax break, consider him to be a clown.

Who wants a clown for a president?

Bush out of 50,000 in the State.

More work for the touchscreen people.

11. CAIR Launches Anti-Torture Campaign
Send a postcard urging Congress to hold hearings

CAIR is calling on American Muslims and other people of conscience to help prevent the use of torture or inhumane treatment of prisoners or detainees. A CAIR postcard urging the House of Representatives to conduct hearings into allegations of detainee abuse by American military personnel is now online on CAIR's web site. (The site
also contains links to news articles related to the issue of torture.)

The front of the CAIR postcard has a photograph of an Iraqi prisoner being abused in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison. <snip>
