CBS Poll: Voters Like VP Choice
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/07/07/opinion/polls/main627915.shtml

(CBS) Sen. John Kerry’s naming Tuesday of North Carolina Sen. John Edwards as his running mate met with a positive response, slightly improving the standing of the Democratic ticket, and also improving Kerry's image among voters.

A majority of all voters, and seven in ten Democrats, say they are glad that Edwards was chosen. Only one in ten think Kerry should have named someone else. By more than two to one, voters think Edwards has the right experience to be a good vice president, though many are not sure he has enough experience to be a good president.

CHOOSING EDWARDS

There is little doubt that the choice of John Edwards was a popular one. Most voters said they were glad Edwards was chosen, and few would have picked anyone else. A minority admitted that it really didn’t matter who the vice presidential candidate was.

The general good feeling about the Edwards nomination exceeds the positive reaction towards two former vice presidential nominees about whom this question was asked. In 2000, 45 percent of all registered voters said they were glad that Al Gore chose Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman; in 1988, only 33 percent said they were glad that George H.W. Bush named Dan Quayle.

When asked specifically about the Edwards choice, there was a significant level of satisfaction – both within the Democratic Party and outside it. Nearly three in four registered voters said they were satisfied (one in five was enthusiastic about the choice). As for Democrats, 90 percent were satisfied. Very few voters admitted they were angry about the choice.

Political superheros for the new millennium ;-)

2. 6 point bounce
with Kerry receiving 45 percent of registered voter support, and Bush 44 percent. Now, with the full tickets, these same respondents give Kerry and Edwards a five-point edge over the Republican ticket.
:bounce:

8. That's actually a 4-point bounce
but he got a 9-point bounce in the NBC poll. :)

BTW, I don't think is even the maximum bounce they'll get. Wait till they campaign together and Edwards starts showing up all over the TV.

3. I am appalled at the incredible stupidity of the GOP
in bringing up whether Edwards is qualified for whatever after the idiot candidate they ran for prez in 2000. That fool couldn't even name commonly known names of presidents of different countries. Bush't only foreign policy experience was his drunken binges in Mexico and his run-ins with the Federales.

4. Have you ever heard the GOP talk about Abu Ghraib?
Have you ever heard a right winger marvel over the pronunciation of words like Abu Ghraib and junior in one sentence?

....er a fool me once...a fool... -

John Edward will run circles around both cheney & junior at the same time.

5. Exactly - Bush was forced to accept Cheney's choice of himself because of
his lack of gravitas in foreign policy and nearly everything else. Once in office, he accepted without question all of the flawed prognostications of the PNAC crowd of Cheney, Rumsfield and "Spitman" Wolfowitz. Kerry, otoh, is confident enough in his own foreign policy expertise that he could choose someone who would be able to help him campaign and once elected, work on legislative issues. He has the foreign policy gravitas himself - he doesn't need a VP add-on.

10. I swear to god, I have fallen through the rabbit hole....
I just heard a CNN reporter with the Bush camp say that the Bushies believe Edwards does not have the gravitas to go up against Cheney. They have completely gone off the deep end if they think they can float that one. Hell...not even Cheney's family could accuse him of having gravitas.

11. Perhaps they mean Edwards hasn't been on the Limbaugh show ...

... and hasn't demonstrated a command of expletives.

12. CNN
is in full attack mode.

Here's an interesting experiment.
Read the Republican talking points from todays NYT:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/07/07/politics/campaign/07repubs.html

Now watch CNN reporting on the Edwards choice.

It's word for word. CNN is simply reading the RNC press releases on air and passing them off as "news".

14. Just because Cheney can say "fuck off" does not give him gravitas..
.. Cheney is a miserable old fool. He reminds me of Scrooge. Gravitas? That's the biggest laugh of the day. Greedy people are easily toppled... no worries. Like amateur criminals, greed always trips them up.

13. GOP Misstep..
I'm convinced that the GOP hate-mongers (aka Bush campaign) is making a HUGE mistake by attacking Edwards to vehemently right off the bat. There is a genuine LIKABILITY about Edwards that appeals to voters on both sides, and the GOP risks alienating a lot of voters by attacking a guy that seems pretty okay. It will backfire on them, and only the most hate-filled dittoheads will buy their attack mantra, the rest will begin to find reasons to like Edwards, and to defend him. It's basic human psychology.
