6. No, he was tied (trailing by 1 ,actually, which is well within the MOE)
Interestingly, even though this was a one-night poll, Bush's approval rating is 45 percent, which is the same as in the previous NBC poll completed less than a week ago.

We're looking at a 9-point bounce. Not bad for one day! (And I suspect the lead would be 9 or 10 points w/o Nader in the mix).

13. I dunno but I am pumped now that Edwards is the man.
In retrospect it was a no-brainer. and I am really appreciating your man now that I am really getting to know him.

2. It is only July 7.
Optimism is great. But I can't get my hopes up by putting much stock in polls. I prefer to count on my intuition, which says Kerry-Edwards is gonna kick Bush-Cheney's ass from here to the Texas state line!

4. 8 point lead over an incumbent president in July is great. Bush and Rove
should be very afraid. That makes them dangerous. This is no time to rest.

21. Not really...

Dukakis had a 10+ point lead on Bush Senior around this point back in 1988.

23. Bush (41) Sr. was not the incumbent
And John Kerry looks good in a tank.

No incumbent President has won re-election if his approval rating was below 50% at any time during the election year.

No incumbent President has won re-elction if he trailed his opponent at any time during the election year.

Kerry-Edwards; expect a landslide

5. Good #'s but catch this: "so-called"
There's a snip of an AP article at that link:

"In the Senate, Edwards made a mark as a leading advocate of the so-called Patients' Bill of Rights..."

Will we now hear references to the "so-called" NCLB? The "so-called" Healthy Forest Initiative? The "so-called" Patriot Act? :+

10. One quick meme for your use
I always think of the "patriot act" as "The Parrot Act" since congress passed it without any understanding of what it meant.

8. sounds good.....
but we still have lots of work to do to keep everyone motivated. I don't want to feel too confident that we have it. Also, Bushit/Cheneyass will get a boost in the poll after their convention in August.

12. I like any poll that shows Kerry-Edwards up and B/C down
Keep 'em coming!

Bushies are saying K/E up by 15 points at the end of July is normal, so let's make it 22 at least!

15. There's something wrong with this poll.
Nader's numbers are too high. The pollsters must have gotten a sample with a lot of liberals and leftists in it.

16. The margin of error for small numbers is higher than for larger numbers.
Its a part of the mathematics of the margin of error that is rarely discussed, but the fact is that the margin of error number you see given for a poll refers to the margin for data points which appear relatively frequently. The margin of error for data points that appear less frequently is larger. In other words, if you poll a sample and 95% of people say yes to one of your questions, you will have a smaller margin of error with regard to that particular question than you will with a question that only 5% of people answered yes to. The margin of error might be 3 or 4 with regard to the 95% question, but 5 or 6 with regard to the other question.

We need to increase it so much that the right does stupid and desperate things. We also need the house so we can prosecute these thugs and their handmaidens to their just doom.
