24. These people are truly insane..
it's time the media jump into this with the truth about * and his real TANG record! The media must have copies of the true records and it's time they use this as their "talking points" when the imposter brings this up. They should interview, lol, the jerk and produce the real facts and copies of his records on national tv. Both of them should be charged for what they've done plus, having the military records altered, they ALL should be jailed. These are sick, desperate thugs!

So George "AWOL" Bush and Dick "Five Motherfucking Deferments" Cheney are complaining about Edwards' lack of military experience? I honestly, truthfully believe that Goerge thinks he really is a fighter pilot now. $5 says he still has his flight suit at the White House. Sometimes I imagine him trying it on for fun in front of the mirror, and making machine gun noises with his lips.

Give me a break with this crap. . . it was bad enough when they were questioning Kerry's military record. And it came back to bite them in the ass, because the press, which had rediscovered its balls, then moved on to George's own record. Do they really want to compare John Edwards (who might not have been old enough to serve in Viet Nam - fact check?) to Dick "Other Priorities" Cheney? That'll be a blast!

11. Edwards drew a high draft number
Edited on Wed Jul-07-04 09:58 AM by livetohike
I heard that on the news last night. He could have been sent to VietNam but his number in the lottery was too high. He was probably a Sophomore in college then.

I doubt he ever had a draft number. I seem to recall the Draft was done away with in 1972. I could be wrong about this though.

61. I think you're right -- Bush seems to think he really WAS in combat
Remember "I've been to war -- I've raised twins"?

I think he's so impressionable that if he's surrounded by props and all the trappings of his manufactured image, he begins to believe all the PR. Tom Toles had a great cartoon a while back, where Bush is telling people he was born on "my hardscrabble ranch in Texas". The poor deluded little man probably would rather embrace the fantasy of being a dirt-poor country boy who was a Vietnam War hero, because the reality is unpleasant.

The only one of the four of them who has any real military experience is Kerry. Unless you count getting repeated deferments and refusing to piss test for your flight exam 'military experience.'

Oh, wait -- apparently, they do.

By their standards, my time as a dependent Air Force wife in the eighties would count as 'military experience' I guess. I came a hell of a lot closer to 'military experience' than Dastardly or Muttley, that's for damned sure. (edit) At least I ironed my then-husband's uniform every week, which is more than Dastardly Dick Cheney can say for himself.

http://www.nhgazette.com/cgi-bin/NHGstore.cgi?user_action=list&category=%20NEWS%3B%20Chickenhawks%3B%20Chickenhawk%20Headquarters

Chickenhawks:
Chickenhawk Headquarters

Name: George W. Bush (R-TX)
Born: 1946
Employer: The U.S. Taxpayer
Conflict Avoided: Vietnam
Notes: You know when a guy walks away from a National Guard obligation during wartime and gets away with it, he must come from "a good family." Not that his daddy had anything to do with his getting a Guard slot in the first place - oh, no ...

Name: Richard "Dick" Cheney (R-WY)

Born: 1942
Employer: The U.S. Taxpayer
Conflict Avoided: Vietnam
Notes: Says he had "other priorities." You bet he had other priorities. Imagine how early in life you must begin scheming to get away with what this guy has. He was too busy thinking about Halliburton to go fight Charlie.

Name: I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby

Born: 1950±
Employer: The U.S. Taxpayer
Conflict Avoided: Vietnam
Notes: I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby is Dick Cheney’s Chief of Staff. He’s had a string of no-doubt well- paying government jobs in State and Defense. He’s also practiced law. In fact, he was Marc Rich’s lawyer for years. Yes — the Marc Rich whose pardon from President Clinton was excoriated by so many high and mighty Republicans. Maybe if Scooter had been a better lawyer, his client wouldn’t have needed that pardon. Speaking of legal questions, “Scooter” is alleged by some to have traded energy stocks while helping his buddy Dick Cheney cook up a new energy policy in secret. He’s also suspected of having inserted the bogus “Niger yellowcake” reference into the President’s State of the Union address. As if all that weren’t enough, he’s also a top suspect in the outing of CIA operative Valeria Plame. Clearly “Scooter” is a ballsy kind of guy, so it’s a complete mystery to us why, when he graduated from Phillips Andover in 1968, he didn’t enlist in the Marines or go Airborne instead of going to Yale.

Name: Karl Rove

Born: 1950
Employer: Baal
Conflict Avoided: Vietnam
Notes: This little cherub was born on Christmas Day, 1950. Karl “Bush’s Brain” Rove ran George W.’s campaign, right down to the tiny detail of deciding Bush was going to run. The hardest part was convincing a horde of Republican skeptics that it could be done.

He is said to have said of his boss, he’s "the kind of candidate and officeholder political hacks like me wait a lifetime to be associated with."

Now Karl’s Senior White House advisor. If he really is “Bush’s Brain,” and if the fondest wishes of former US Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV come true, one fine day Karl will be “frogmarched out of the White House in mandcuffs.”

Will history record that event as “Bush’s Lobotomy?”

Name: Donald "The Don" Rumsfeld

Born: 1932
Employer: The U.S. Taxpayer
Conflict Avoided: Korea
Notes: When the shooting started in Korea Rummy here was either 18, or about to turn 18. Not to worry for him, though — he spent the war at Princeton, wearing a ROTC uniform. Once the war was over he flew jets for the Navy for a few years. Defenders of Rumsfeld will say he’s no chickenhawk — he served, and it’s not his fault the war ended before he got his commission. To which others answer, “plenty of farmers and mechanics and kids just out of high school served. Anyone as full of whatever that stuffing in him is, could have tried out for a battlefield commission.”

Name: Paul Wolfowitz

Born: 1943
Employer: The U.S. Taxpayer
Conflict Avoided: Vietnam
Notes: Deputy Secretary for Defense - yet another Bush administration man in the Pentagon who has no idea what it's like to wear a uniform. He got a BA at Cornell in 1965. Maybe if we'd had a guy as bright as he thinks he is in Vietnam, it would have turned out differently.

10. I am the same age John Edwards is
On the draft lottery my birthday was pulled @ #113 of 365. I was home free because they would not get that far down the list to draft me.

John Edwards stood better than a 75 percent likelyhood of being in the same position as I was. Face it, in 1971 if we didn't have to we likely would not have went to that hell hole Vietnam and if the repubs say otherwise they are liars.

Edwards has nothing to worry about especially since he never went AWOL like some people.

33. In 1972, June 10 was number 178 in the lottery. . .

The 1972 draft determined the order in which men born in 1953 were called to report for induction into the military.

In 1970, June 10 was #76, and in 1971, June 10 was #226 in the lottery.

in that case here is the other half of the argument. He would hacve certainly received a college draft defermant. Hell by the time he was a junior in college he would have nothing to worry about. By that time Nixon ended the war to try to save his ass.

43. They had deferments up to the time of Nixon's draft lottery - then it all
ended.

I pulled 265 in New York - I was free to stay out - thank god for being from a large populous state. That same number in a small state like Hawaii, you went even if you pulled 365.

I had a college buddy that pulled 2 - never saw anybody "older" cry like that before - never found out what happened to him.

The lottery ENDED any deferments except for serious medical conditions - like visual impairment - flat feet and you went.

37. This could be a bad thing.

Think, people. Bush* is absolutely certain he will not lose the job this November. He's directly addressing one of the topics that's mentioned in F-9/11; wasn't the physical a requirement while he was in TANG?

They really, really shouldn't be going there, and they are. Coupled with Bush's* certainty that he'll remain in office, well, I just don't like the sound of what they're doing.

It's as if they just don't care because they know there's something that'll change things an awful lot.

45. Uncle Fester screwed his way out of Vietnam
and he's been screwing the country ever since.

I understand that four of his deferments were academic-related, but that his fifth one was for paternity.

I gotta believe that this kind of BS is eaten primrily by the base repugs. I think Rove is still attempting to solidifiy it.

44. I think voters are going to reject their hateful attacks..
I have this feeling, when things are really bad (as they are now), that people will start to turn off by the constant negativity. It's what helped Clinton.. he offered "hope". I think Edwards on the ticket gives us more of a positive, inspirational message. The GOP continues their sick attacks at their own peril, if there is an ounce of affection for Edwards, by the voters, they will start to feel a sense of defense for him... as the GOP attacks.

Sheesh.. they really are a hateful bunch.

48. I think voters.....
Edwards is a decent man.

There is an old European saying, "If God lived on Earth, people would break His windows."

There are people who cannot live with decency; makes 'em uncomfortable.

Ya Edwards didn't serve. Dick didn't, and Bush, pffft. AWOL. Absent without leave. That means, Bush dear, that you can't show off your military service just because it looks good - you didn't serve.

73. get real folks
You shouldn't attack Cheney just for not having avoiding the draft. You know very well that if he had fought there, we could have risked losing him, and then who would be here to get contracts for Halliburton?
