Afghans Find Secret Prison; 3 Americans Arrested

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan security forces have arrested three Americans and four Afghans after a shootout in the capital and accused them of illegally detaining and interrogating locals, security officials said Wednesday....

Police said several Afghans, apparently detained by the group, were found in the house. Members of the group detaining wore military uniforms....

U.S. Embassy spokesman Roy Glover said he understood three of the men had identified themselves as Americans, including Idema, who had been visited by U.S. consular staff.

Three Americans arrested in Kabul

Three US citizens have been arrested in Kabul for allegedly holding Afghans in a private prison, an Afghan intelligence official has said.

The high-ranking official told the AFP news agency that the Americans and four Afghans had been detained in a house in the capital on Monday.

US embassy official Roy Glover said he was aware the US citizens were held.

The arrests come as the US coalition reviews its detention centres after complaints of abuse.
