Almost Half Dem Delegates Are Minorities
WASHINGTON -- Minorities will be represented in record numbers among the delegates to this month's Democratic National Convention in Boston, convention organizers said Wednesday.

Nearly 40 percent of the more than 4,300 delegates are of a minority background, including record numbers of blacks, Asians, American Indians and Hispanics, the Democratic National Convention Committee said.

12. AuH2O had a gay grandson -- kinship often helps to humanize "the other"
"Often" but not always, as witness Cheney and Gingrich, and their monumental hypocrisy.

Arizona must be doing something right if it produces conservatives like McCain and Goldwater -- honorable opponents, both of them.

5. Let's take those stats for a spin
Headline says "Almost Half" then quotes "Nearly 40%". If you add up the percentages you get 37.2% (US population would be about 32%)

The subtext they are trying to sell is that minorities are over-represented, so they make a leap from 37.2% to "Almost Half".

So, just when did "Slightly over 1/3" become "Almost 1/2"?

14. I wonder what the minority percentage is at the Republican Convention?
Something tells me that it's not that high! Of course, it helps that all 12 (or is it 11 now?) of the non-white republicans sit right in front of the cameras. (That old trick fools me every time!)
