Man Sentenced for Plot to Bomb Clinics
Edited on Thu Jul-08-04 10:48 AM by khephra
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A man who was accused of plotting to fire bomb abortion clinics, churches and gay bars was sentenced Thursday to five years in federal prison.

Stephen John Jordi received the minimum sentence from Judge James Cohn. He pleaded guilty in February to a single charge of attempted arson of an abortion clinic in a plea deal with prosecutors.

Prosecutors had asked Cohn to sentence Jordi under a federal terrorism law and sought seven to 10 years.

If Al Queda wanted to start bombing our Planned Parenthood clinics
Would they be punished more severely than this guy?

If so, why?

Would someone be punished the same way if they wanted to bomb an 'abortion clinic' versus bombing a McDonald's?

If not, why not?

1. five years doesn't seem long, given what he was planning
Gee, thank god they didn't try to put a serious dent in his career as a budding terrorist. There are pot growers who get more time.

And if he were a Muslim wacko -- as opposed to a Christian wacko -- he'd probably have been held in Gitmo without trial ever since his arrest.

3. I guess we know what Jose Padilla will face now.
'Plotting' a bombing is a 5 year offense apparently.

5. Was it entrapment? Are liberals being entrapped by demanding a
stronger sentence?

I think the punishment probably fits the thoughtcrime.

Unfortunately, if the man were Muslim they would have thrown away the key.

Stephen John Jordi
Meet Stephen John Jordi, a former Army Ranger, who now allegedly thinks he’s an anti-abortion activist who should go around plotting to firebomb abortion clinics, doctors who perform abortions, gays and some churches that don’t take a strong enough stand against abortion. What’s next – kindergartens because some kid might grow up to have an abortion? Jordi, seen here in his mug shot taken by the FBI after his arrest on November 11, 2003, was tripped up by a confidential informant who secretly taped conversations with this whacked-out religious fanatic and became best buddies with Jordi in order to find out his plans. Apparently Jordi comes from the I-hate-everyone-in-the-world-religion, because he allegedly also wanted to kill President Bush and former President Clinton. What, did he think they were going to have an abortion, too? This guy needs to be locked up and have the key thrown away.

A conservative who didn't get into the "Champagne Brigade!"

I just found this site looking for a photo of this right-winger. Isn't it interesting, actually?

8. Didn't they recently throw the "terra" book at a guy for shooting a gun in
the air to scare someone on his property? Thought I saw that posted here on DU a couple days ago.

I think we just need to do away with this Patriot Act/Fed "terra" law BS and use the laws already on the books. If they need to be strengthened, fine do it. But a bomb, is a bomb, is a bomb. 5 years does seem like a light sentence for what this guy is accused of.
