3. And not just "Wounded"
Maimed, disfigured, horribly.

Body armor protects the torso. Clotting patches can stop even arterial bleeding where a limb has been lost. People survive on the modern battlefield who would have been passed over by Triage in earlier wars as unsalvageable.

And I sometimes wonder if this is any sort of mercy?

5. I apologize if I appeared to minimize the seriousness of the wounds
It was not intentional. To give an example the Pentagon has returned mortally wounded soldiers to their families and have left it up to them to take them off of life support due to injuries to their brains that meant they would never recover. I find that despicable. You are right. These are not scratches and bruises.

4. It's 878
...at icasualties.org. Coalition active duty deaths now 998.

The selective reporting of casualty catergories attempts to minimize the chaos in Iraq. Untold numbers of Iraqis and foreigners have been killed. The violence is getting worse not better.

The wounded category fails to account for the number of post traumatic stress disorder cases many of which will be delayed. Some cursory reports indicate that as many as 17 percent of all ground forces deployed in Iraq may ALREADY HAVE THIS DEBILITATING DISORDER. This doesn't account for those who will develope the delayed disorder at a later date. These people are as wounded as those pierced and dismembered by lead and steel but because of the prejudice against mental impairments and the superficial propaganda oriented nature of the press this high casualty rate is virtually ignored. If it doesn't bleed it doesn't count.

7. Lunaville: 878; CNN: 879.
I don't know of a reliable wounded number.

CBS News gives a brief biography of a dead soldier every night. Makes me cry, they are so sweet and they are missing the rest of their lives.
