Teen Arrested in Deaths at Donaldson Ranch
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/Entertainment/ap20040708_3047.html

HONDO, N.M. July 8, 2004 — A 14-year-old boy accused in a triple-murder on newsman Sam Donaldson's ranch told police he took a gun from the barn and shot his family after being repeatedly beaten by his father including once with a shovel, according to a man who took care of the teenager before his arrest.

<snip>

Salcido said the boy told investigators that on Monday "he was cleaning the corral, and his dad didn't like the way he cleaned it, so he smacked him a couple of times and told him to go into the house."

<snip>

Salcido told the AP that the boy also told deputies his father hit him with a shovel and tried to strangle him during the Fourth of July weekend.

<snip>

The two sons told the AP they recalled many instances when Cody Posey showed up at school with black eyes and other bruises.

Asked if sheriff's deputies had investigated abuse, Sullivan said: "I can say we did not." He said if a teacher had reported it, "we would have done something about it."

...more...

abuse is a horrible cycle :(

1. His father hit him with a shovel?
I guess it was okay for the kid to then kill his stepmother and his 14 year old stepsister, along with his own father? Just checking.:eyes:

2. Because it would have been more rational to
just blast a hole into his father? If any of this is true, we're obviously dealing with a disturbed CHILD.

5. I believe in abuse cases, the anger can be directed at both parents
The father may have been the abusive parent, but the boy may have been angry at the stepmother for not supporting him, or for not protecting him. As for the stepsister, she may have had some anger directed towards her for similar reasons. He may have also blamed the stepmother and stepsister for somehow causing his natural father to show him less love and indeed, causing the abuse.

I am not saying it is right, but by the time someone snaps a lot can come out all at once, and it won't make much sense, especially from a boy.

6. reality check
if this child was abused the way he indicates -- then predicting his moral clarity is impossible.
the world let him down and ability to make reasoned judgement robbed.
but i'm sure your superior reasoning ability would lead you to that conclusion sooner....or much later.
