Blix Made Last - Minute Plea to Blair on Iraq - Paper
LONDON (Reuters) - Former U.N. arms inspector Hans Blix pleaded with British Prime Minister Tony Blair for more time to find weapons of mass destruction before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, the Financial Times reported on Friday.

``I told Mr. Blair that while I could not completely exclude the possibility of the existence of WMD, I was not impressed by the evidence so far,'' Blix told the paper in an interview.

``Blair told me that all the intelligence agencies around the world agreed with the British and the U.S. that there were. He was genuinely convinced.''

that there were no WMD and the invasion and occupation would be a cakewalk with very lucrative fringe benefits. Blair's a liar, and a poor one at that. Additionally, he's a phoney, self righteous prig. And that's being generous.

3. Blair believed only because he WANTED to believe....
instead of evaluating the evidence in an objective manner, imo. Nothing the UN said would have made a difference, Blair knew best, in his own mind, and that was that. He still won't admit he was wrong.

4. another link and more text.
Former top civil servant Lord Butler will deliver a report on Wednesday on the intelligence the UK government received about Saddam Hussein's weaponry, with British espionage likely to face criticism as well as possibly the Blair administration.

A notorious UK dossier from September 2002 said WMD could have been fired within 45 minutes of an order to do so. Yet over a year after Saddam was ousted, no such weapons have been found.

"We got an insight into how poor the intelligence was," Blix told the Financial Times. "We were being given what they were telling was the best they had and it was wrong."

Blix was head of the International Atomic Energy Agency from 1981 to 1997 and later chief of the U.N. Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) until 2003.

7. Why don't we hear more about
the plagiarized dossier? The 45 min claim keeps being bandied about but it seems much more incriminating that they resorted to plagiarizing from a student's dated thesis. Why has that topic been dropped or have I just not kept up????
