Some Theater Chains Refuse 'Fahrenheit' |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 05:18 PM by spotbird
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Michael Moore's controversial "Fahrenheit 9/11" will expand into 286 additional theaters Friday. But if you're an interested moviegoer in Grand Island, Neb., or Marquette, Wis., you'll have to drive to at least the next town to view Moore's critique of the Bush administration. Illinois-based GKC Theaters and Iowa-based Fridley Theaters have decided to not screen the film. ***more*** On edit: email address of theaters refusing to show it: http://www.fridleytheatres.com/ http://www.gkctheatres.com/about/default.htm second edit: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20040709/film_nm/film_fahrenheit_dc_5 sorry

3. Hey, a business does not have to show a film. |
|
Of course, it is cutting off the nose to spite Moore's face. Losing money they could make by showing it, probably pissing off a lot of locals who want to see it, training people to go elsewhere to see what they want...it's all just a business decision. OK it's a bad business decision, but it is their's to make. Just don't buy stock in their business cuz they are idiots who stand to lose much. But hey, it's a free country and it is their business they are flushing down the toilet.
Some smart locals with vans should organize carpools to the theater in the next town that is showing the film. Be sure and have the motorcade drive by the boycotting theater to wave (banners on vans would be good too) on your way to spend $$ elsewhere!

5. You are absolutely correct. |
|
So long as there isn't wide spread censorship, a few theaters can chose to make poor business decisions. Also, even low level controversy helps to promote the film.
It is still interesting that some theaters are still fighting it.
