Alexis Simendinger on Washington Week -- "Sloppy seconds" |
|
Am I the only one who did a double take when the term "Sloppy seconds" was thrown around on Washington Week in Review, of all places, by columnist Alexis Simendinger, as a way to describe Kerry's selection of John Edwards after John McCain supposedly turned down Kerry's invitation to at least explore the option.
I can think of one clear meaning to "sloppy seconds", and I'm having a hard time coming up another. Hmmm.

What do you expect from a party so morally bankrupt it describes a pile of tortured, naked prisoners as a fraternity prank? And whose second in command is proud to tell those he disagrees with to f*** off on the Senate floor.
Bush tald us he'd bring a new morality to the White House. And he's delivered.

7. This "talking point" first surfaced on Washington Journal on Wed |
|
Tara Wall ...RNC outreach chairman uttered those words, and I about fell off my chair.. The thread about it is a few posts above.. This was not something that a genteel young woman would utter on her own.. Either she got Cheney's "Talking Points 'o the Day" oor people have been told to use these words.. Alex is about the 4th person who has uttered these words now..

10. It did strike me that Alex might not know what the phrase meant |
|
She might have picked it up on some talking points, just as you suggest. She spoke the phrase as if it had no significance what so ever.
I have watched other talking heads use the phrase, 'getting down to the short strokes", and was quite convinced they didn't have the faintest idea what the phrase really meant either. Hehe.

Is what you would expect to get if your date was Ann Coulter and you brought her to a biker bar.
Or perhaps sloppy fifths.

12. Some talking airhead used the term "money shot" in the last few days. |

Wish I could remember more about it, and googling around doesn't find it. Perhaps after more transcripts are up. It was almost as startling as hearing Alexis just now.
I believe it was a woman, maybe Faux or MSNBC, and I believe she referred to the first Kerry/Edwards post-announcement pictures (?). Might have been back when Faux showed that porn pic with the breasts obscured, but missed another crucial detail. Don't remember the context now, just noticed at the time how out-of-place it sounded. Defining down, etc.
I thought I saw it mentioned somewhere here, or at Eschaton, but can't find anything, and don't want to search so much I get obsessive. But the multiple instances of this '2nds' makes me suspect (tin) carefully constructed Rovian schemes based on rocket science polling.

used innocuously as an expression by one of their lead anchor guys to describe a quick moving storm! I thought WTF is he thinking? bemildred is right, they often don't know the meanings of what they're saying on the air.

Right now, homophobia is all they have going for them.
Of course, this does call McCain's sexual preferences into question.
But they never did give a shit about McCain.

Let's not be afraid to remind people of this. The next presidential election he wins will be the first. Let's hope it never happens.
