Bush launches broadside against 'pessimist' Edwards
and Kerry drops the KL-Bomb on Bush. :-)

http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=5634015

YORK (Reuters) - President Bush on Friday called Democrat John Edwards a pessimist on the economy and suggested his experience as a trial lawyer would tilt him toward policies that would hurt small businesses.

At a raucous rally in York, Pennsylvania, the president launched his most aggressive broadside against Edwards since John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, named the North Carolina senator as his running mate on Tuesday.

<snip>

But Kerry took a swipe at Bush, raising the issue of values to criticize Bush's past friendship with Kenneth Lay, the former chairman of Enron who was indicted this week on charges related to the energy company's descent into bankruptcy.

"Values are not just words," Kerry told a fundraiser in New York. "Values are putting the full force of the Justice Department on day one in an effort not to take three years and a few months before the election before you bring Ken Lay to justice."

17. A federal prosecuter and former hi-profile trial lawyer.........
a pretty damn good team to take on the corrupt and criminal actions of the Republican Corporate Party - a very select group of war profiteers, Jesus hucksters, billion dollar energy scammers, and a compliant RW media corpse allowing it to happen.

8. Awww, you're going easy,
bigbill!

The Repugs have redefined "desperate" this week.

I noticed today that jealousy over the family portraits of K&E compelled Dubya to pull Jenna out of whatever rock he'd hidden her under to make an appearance with him on the campaign trail.

Pathetic, really, because Jenna is now separated at birth from Courtney Love.

37. Jenna and Courtney Love....that's good!
Yeah, Big Bill was being nice....and yes, the Repukes are getting desperate....I loved the press conference where AWOL was asked about Edwards and all the adjectives that have been used to describe him including "sexy" etc. and then asking AWOL about the differences between Edwards and FUCheney and the look on AWOL's face was a sour version of his usual smirk and his grunting answer of "He (FUCheney) could be President"....He meant to say "He is President".

If AWOL had any a)class b)charisma c) intelligence d) charm etc., he would have said something along the lines of "Well, Dick is a sexy guy... :)" or "Well, they needed to get someone as sexy as Dick and me"....

Yeah, they are scared and I thought the family gathering of everyone in the K&E clans were great - youthful, vibrant, happy, caring....

Versus - Drunk, Drunker and Drunkettes? And does FUCHeney's daughter really dare appear with Dad while the Gay Marriage debates go on?

4. John Edwards a "pessimist"? That dog won't hunt.
Edwards has the most optimistic outlook of any of the candidates on either ticket, imo. Now Cheney - there's a pessimist. He is always snarling about something.

7. It is interesting that Bush is slamming Edwards.
It is usually the VP candidate that plays that role. Shows how worried they are - but it does not show the best side of Bush. An incumbent president should be a little above the fray.

13. Excellent point
Is Cheney really that unpopular that he cannot campaign "publicly"

Cheney only campaigns to select groups, and only some of those speeches are taped/televised. I wonder if BC04 polling shows that Cheney is too unpopular to take the front seat on the attacks (apparently their polling shows he is so unpopular that Bush and Cheney cannot be seen together).

11. Big Oil Bush's credibility needs to be pounded into the ground-
Using the same logic they use about Edwards being a trial lawyer, by the same token Bush's background as an oilman tilts Bush in favor of policies maintaining high oil prices, taking over Iraq and making shady deals with other countries to get control of their oil.

We had to laugh out loud with the audacity of the Bush ad that ran on TV today here in N.C that says if we elect Kerry, within 100 days he will raise our taxes by 900 billion dollars. I couldn't believe my ears- I had my back turned from the T.V. and when I looked back at the ad, sure enough in huge numbers it said 900 Billion dollars!
If a majority of the voters are stupid enough to believe Bush with his unrelenting lies and distortions, there is no hope for us.

Thank God. I'm ordering T-shirts tonight and I'm going to wear them everywhere. I think it should be the new hip thing to wear anti-Bush, pro-Kerry T-shirts everywhere, just like after 9/11 it was hip to wear the flag. Don't you think so?

primary exit polls showed that Kerry and Edwards supporters alike agreed that Edwards won votes based on a particularly positive campaign. that's ridiculous to say he or Kerry are pessimists and America knows Dubya is wrong.

26.  not surprising
Yesterday, I wet to the Kerry/Edwards event in Ft Lauderdale.
Their speeches were all about optimism and hope. Right then I imagined Bush saying something like "Hey, that's my line!" - especially after that "wild-eyed" GOP ad.

Something about all of this reminds me of Clinton's references to "A place called Hope". We had it then.

With Bush in office, there's nothing but despair.

Edited on Fri Jul-09-04 10:16 PM by teryang
They sue big businesses, the bigger the better. Anyone who doesn't know this, doesn't know anything about the tort business.

Bushco is the pessimist, with the otherworldly messianic bullshit to compensate for the vale of tears world he and his rich buddies have created. Oh the fear, the terror, the threats, the sacrifices we heard about every day ad nauseum.

There he is painting the ultimate success story as a pessimist. A spoiled dry drunk that had everything given to him and wrecked it, calling a self made super talented Edwards who went from the bottom to the top, a pessimist.

32. And how pessimistic is The Prince of Darkness himself, Dick Cheney?
Every once in a while Cheney crawls out of his hole to remind us that the world is a dark and horrible place, filled with people who want to kill you. Humans are evil, and we must slaughter them before they slaughter us. An all-consuming hellfire will destroy us all. Thank you, and make the check out to bush/cheney 04.

39. BushCo's normal strategy is to turn a positive to a negative
With Gore it was his integrity, with Kerry it's his military record.

BushCo finds a candidate's greatest strength, and makes an outlandish claim to turn it into a weakness, so that candidate can't use that issue without drawing up the negative image. It's a classic bully move.

Edwards is pegged by the media as optimistic and as a man of humble beginnings, so BushCo is painting him as a multi-millionaire pessimist trial lawyer out of touch with the people.

The campaign has not begun yet. The smears and slanders will get more outrageous. Kerry so far seems to understand what Bush will do, but even so, it's easy to underestimate him. Bush is slimy as hell, and will spin a lie better than he can tell the truth.
