Charges Tossed Vs. Five Bush Protesters (In Crawford, Tx!)
CRAWFORD, Texas -- A judge on Friday dismissed all charges against five anti-war activists who were arrested last year on their way to President Bush's ranch.

The five were convicted in February of violating the city's protest ordinance and fined $200 to $500. But McLennan County Judge Tom Ragland ruled the ordinance was overly broad and violated the First Amendment.

The ordinance required 15 days' notice and a $25 fee before the police chief could issue a permit for a protest. Crawford officials have since amended the ordinance to require seven days of notice.

1. Crawford "Protest Ordinance?"
How big of them to reduce the 15 days' notice to seven.

Where does it say in the Constitution that you have to give notice to utilize your First Amendment rights? :grr:

5. The notice requirement is there so people don't burn down the entire town.
When you protest you are expected to make sure that there are enough restrooms, and police to prevent mass riots.

Crawford mayor is Kerry supporter

BY GROMER JEFFERS JR.

The Dallas Morning News

(KRT) - Crawford may be the heart of Bush country, but the town's mayor says John Kerry is the best choice for president.

"I don't see where I'm better off than I was four years ago," Robert Campbell said Tuesday. "I don't see where the city is any better off."

The Kerry campaign recently listed Campbell as one of 100 black mayors around the country - seven of them Texans - who support the Massachusetts senator over President Bush. But the campaign has not focused particular attention on the endorsement.

With his sprawling ranch near Crawford, Bush is the area's most famous resident. Tourists flood the Central Texas city's tiny downtown on weekends to purchase Bush memorabilia and eat the Presidential cheeseburger basket at the Coffee Station, the restaurant that Bush occasionally visits while on vacation.

Campbell, a Democrat who has been mayor since 1999, said he's met Bush once but doesn't feel inclined to support the former Texas governor. He voted for Al Gore in 2000.

He sounds very unimpressed having Bush calling Crawford his home, and the article has him saying there are MORE Kerry supporters in Crawford.

Thanks a lot, or as Bush our gifted bilingual pResident might say, "gracias!"
