Iraq war still justified, Wolfowitz contends
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/9121169.htm?1c

Sat, Jul. 10, 2004

OMAHA, Neb. - Administration critics often single out Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz as an ideologue who cherry-picked intelligence to argue for invading Iraq.

<snip>

Yet the conclusion by the Senate Intelligence Committee that the anti-Iraq ?groupthink? was wrong about weapons of mass destruction doesn't undercut the basis for the American invasion, he said.

?If you wait until all the dots are connected, it's probably too late because you've already been attacked,? he said.

<snip>

"I think they're starting to believe that we didn't come to get their oil," he said.

<snip>

He defended the Bush administration's tailoring of foreign policy toward the war on terror, describing it as "the most serious war we have ever fought," even as he conceded that it might seem nebulous.

"It may be hard to tell when the war has ended, but it clearly hasn't ended yet," Wolfowitz said. "It will be won when they stop attacking... It may peter out."

So Wolfowitz has crawled out of his hidey hole to utter more of his inane statements. He's either crazy or delusional, pick one.

1. They felt they needed to defend the area for Israel PLUS
they wanted to control the middle east so they picked Saddam's area in which to set up house.

These people are too bull headed and invested to admit they've blown it. It would just be too embarrassing and costly for them. They have to keep up the drivel (lies) in order to keep their base behind them.

I wouldn't take any amount of money to be in those fools shoes right now.

2. What a comedian! I can't stop laughing!
"I think they're starting to believe that we didn't come to get their oil," he said.

I think he meant "I think they're starting to believe that we didn't come to ONLY get their oil."

4. All I Can See when I see his name is
the footage of him in F911 spitting on his comb, and letting his aide wipe his hair with the aide's spit....

If the press wants some photos of two guys being "chummy", those shots make Edwards and Kerry look like strangers at opposite ends of the earth.

7. He must have run out of spit
the day they took this picture:

You're right, I can no longer look at him without thinking about that clip in F-911. That was really, really gross.

5. That's a real screamer!
20 billion dollars of Iraqi oil revenues have virtually disappeared without an accounting.

Energy resources are not the only Iraqi capital assets being converted to American corporate possessions.

8. consider the underlying "unintended" message
15+ months AFTER invading they are still trying to justify the war -- if the invasion was such a good idea, why are they still trying to sell this "product" to Americans?

not only is Comb-spit (Wolfowitz) still banging on the wornout wardrum, but potty-mouth continues to sputter about a Saddam/Bin-Laden connection, and AWOL still finds it necessary to include a paragraph or two about it in his campaign speeches

although the "official" WMD report pins the blame on the CIA and discards the "undue White House pressure" angle -- it doesn't absolve AWOL/Potty-mouth and others from responsibility for actually making the decision to go to war.

Further more -- the report now forces AWOL to either drag out some obscure reason for invading, or "apologize" that a mistake happened on his watch and admit that he was "fooled" -- which doesn't say much about his management abilites...

Yesterday, the "police station" destroyed/5 US KIA
was our last foothold in Samarra.
Samarra has just become another Falluja.

Maybe Wolfowitz thinks Zarqawi is in Samarra now.
Number of foreigners held by "coalition"-
WASHINGTON, July 6 (Reuters) - Only 90 of the more than
5,700 people in custody in Iraq as security risks are
foreign fighters, defense officials said on
Tuesday,

Aqeel Hussein, a reporter for the UK-based
organisation Institute for War and Peace Reporting, said he
saw helicopters evacuating troops, as looters and
rebels overran the last base.

"People were crying 'Americans have left the base', and I
saw looters pouring out with satellite receivers, televisions
and DVD recorders," he
said.

Witnesses said insurgents wearing the uniforms of the old
Iraqi army and the red boots worn by Mr Hussein's
Republican Guard saluted their superiors before firing
rocket launchers in the city's industrial
zone.

15. Wolfowitz, again serves as an example
that answers the question...

If someone is brilliant, but delusional... do the delusions compromise the outcomes of the "brilliance"?

(I am defering to those from right and left who continue to refer to him as a highly intelligent - if not deluded - thinker.)

17. There is a problem with blaming the CIA's intel and then insisting on
'stay the course' as policy! If the CIA's intel was wrong then the whole reason for the invasion was wrong! Admit it. Find a way to get out safely ASAP and pay reparations to the Iraqi people PLUS turn over ANYONE high in the command chain who had anything to do with torturing and let them be tried in international court. Then, promise to NEVER pull such a dumb-shit stunt again without making damned sure your intel is right and that most of the world agrees with you!

If the invasion was the course the junta wanted to take, then the CIA intel had no bearing what so ever on their decisions! The junta was gonna do as they damn well pleased and any intell that didn't back them up would be disregarded. They would cook the books to manufacture intel that justifies their ends, thus OSP was created. Let's not forget, a lot of corporate CEO types in this junta and the MO for many of that club seems to be "cook the books whenever you need to fool people".

Either the CIA blew it and the whole thing was a mistake or the junta cooked the books and they are the international war criminals for picking on an innocent nation for their own agenda. Jeeze Wolf, you cannot have it both ways!

18. IT'S ALL A THEORECTICAL PROBLEM
to Wolfie. It's not a real-life situation. He didn't even know how many casualties we had suffered when he testified before Congress.
It's a chess problem to him--he's all head, no heart. That's a very dangerous man to have in power; especially when the Ivory Tower starts to tumble. He can't admit faulty thinking.

I'M SCARED OF THESE PEOPLE.

19. Wolfowitz is extremely shortsighted.
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 01:00 PM by Zorra
He seems to have a real problem with integrative thinking, and extrapolating on the logical consequences of actions. He is the essence of the "everything is black and white" conservative thinker.

Failure to recognize that the Iraqi people would mount sustained resistance against a foreign invader indicates that, despite his education, Wolfowitz has little or no effective understanding of history, culture, or human nature.

He obviously does not have the critical thinking skills necessary to make wise decisions regarding foreign policy matters.

It is extremely dangerous to the security of the US to have someone like Wolfowitz in the position of Deputy Defense Secretary.

Realistically, his inability to properly assess intelligence and recognize plausible (or probable) consequences of covert strategies and military actions could lead to a nuclear incident.

Wolfowitz advocates establishing a global American Empire, through any means necessary, including the repeated use of pre-emptive military action to subdue sovereign nations that resist US domination.

Historically, this is the same type of thinking and action displayed by the German leaders that ultimately led Germany to destruction in the 1930's and 1940's.

Those German leaders, just like Wolfowitz, did not have the intellectual ability to foresee the probable consequences of their actions.

23. Well said!
Combined with a portion of the post above, this is truly through the looking glass thinking.

If the original reason for going to war were wrong, why isn't there a change, or at least adjustment, to the policy?

Wolfowitz and Rummy have demonstrated time and time again that they either haven't learned or are indifferent to the lessons of history for nations wishing to occupy the Middle East.

They are fools........every last one of them.

21. Paul Wolfowitz is an over-paid pencil pusher.
I've read a little bit about him. From what I've gathered, he is nothing mroe than an ideological dreamer who's cut off from reality.

He thought his little diagrams and Excel spreadsheets could solve everything, including the 'little humans' who were sitting on top of their oil.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. Nothing has turned out the way he imagined it. Because he has never had to deal with people. He never understood the Iraqis; he never wanted to.

You would think that when he almost got his ass blown up last year in the Baghdad Hilton, he might have had a change of heart. Apparently not.

Now, he mentions that "they're starting to believe that we didn't come to get their oil". While many of you may laugh, I do not believe that this was Wolfowitz' plan.

I think Cheney and his oil buddies had spit drooling out of their mouths when they talked about Iraqi oil, but I believe Wolfowitz wanted to bring in permanent bases to control the Middle East. He wanted us there for political reasons.

But he's still stupid. Stupid, stupid stupid Paul.

Edited on Sun Jul-11-04 12:07 AM by Jack Rabbit
He needs it.

1. Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, he was no threat.
2. Saddam had no ties to al Qaida. Therefore, toppling him could have no effect on the war against terror.
3. The invasion of Iraq was unjusified.

Has this drool-bucket never heard of
- the war of independence
- the civil war
- the second world war
- the first world war

P.S. - I love how the spell checker always come up with "half wits" when it tries to find a match for Wolfowitz.
