Edwards Suggests Bush Dragged Feet on Lay
Edited on Sat Jul-10-04 10:48 AM by maddezmom
By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - John Edwards (news - web sites), the newly named Democratic vice presidential candidate, suggested that President Bush (news - web sites)'s administration dragged its feet in prosecuting alleged "corporate crooks" like the former Enron chief executive Kenneth Lay.

"It took three long years to see Ken Lay handcuffed and indicted for what he did," the North Carolina senator said Saturday in the weekly Democratic radio address. "In November, middle-class families will be able to rest assured that John Kerry (news - web sites) will look out for their interests, restore corporate responsibility and put our economy back in line with our values."

He said that Kerry understands that families are struggling to stay afloat.

"You can't save any money because it takes every dime you make to just to pay your bills. And if something goes wrong, a serious illness, or a layoff, you go right off the cliff," he said. "And to make things even worse, millions of Americans have lost their life's savings and pensions because of corporate crooks like Ken Lay."

3. I think it's great
that Kerry and Edwards are campaigning as a team (that Edwards isn't just staying in the background like Kerry's shadow). I think it makes their campaign all the more dynamic.

This part:

"You can't save any money because it takes every dime you make to just to pay your bills. And if something goes wrong, a serious illness, or a layoff, you go right off the cliff," he said...

accurately describes the struggles of many people over the past couple of years.

4. Yes, and I think the only reason the Bush administration finally acted
was the recent revelation of those horrible audiotapes of the Enron energy traders. Hearing those guys laughing about gouging Californians resurrected the whole dirty business of Enron and Kenny-Boy.

5. "restore corporate responsibility" -- who gets the sense that that might
be the solution to the problem in Iraq too?

9. Great team--they will win with this sort of approach
Edwards team seems to be super fast on the issues. I am assuming it is what Edwards brought to the Kerry campaign. His war room that is smart and snappy. They get on the stupid things Bush says, immediately and that is what is needed here, I think. Put the spoiled little frat boy Bush on the defensive. Taunt him and make him lose it and make a fool out of himself. Bring em on! Make Bush defend his manhood against real men--that oughta throw him for a loop.

12. If Fred Luntz
worked for the Dems, every time this was said it would be " George Bushs friend and donor, the corporate crook, Ken Lay".

I just saw on FreeRepuglic that it's the Demoncrats who were the great beneficiaries of the Lay largesse.

Who am I to believe? After all the pResident never makes mistakes, nor does he do anything against the interest of the average amurikan.
